Funding Opportunities for Iowa's Youth

Iowa 4-H Gala Nets $73,500
With food, entertainment and more than 150 auction packages, the Iowa 4-H Foundation's Third Annual Gala netted $73,500 to support the Iowa
4-H program statewide and at the club level. Even some 4-H youth played a role in reaching this amount, which more than doubled the 2011 gala total.
"This year our auction included items donated by 22 Iowa 4-H members, which raised $2,345. Fifty percent of the proceeds from those items will be given to those members' 4-H clubs," said Shelly Greving, marketing director for the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

24 4-H Clubs Receive Pioneer Grants
FlagsTwenty-four Iowa 4-H clubs have been awarded 2012 Pioneer Rural Community Improvement Grants totaling $4,605 to support service projects within their own communities. Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., in cooperation with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development, granted $55 to $250 to each awarded club. The Pioneer grant program allows young people to make a positive difference in their communities while learning valuable life skills. These grants give 4-H'ers a sense of belonging and appreciation for the communities where they live.

10 County Histories Posted to 4-H History Blog
Davis County Future 4-H'ers 1934Ten counties have recently added their 4-H history to the Iowa 4-H History by County blog, a blog detailing the history of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach
4-H Youth Development.
4-H Historical information is now available for Audubon, Boone, Davis, Dubuque, Harrison, Kossuth, Marion, Polk, Scott and Woodbury counties. In addition, histories have been posted for Cass, Cerro Gordo, Clay, Decatur, Howard, Johnson, Keokuk, Page, Taylor and Webster counties.

4-H Family Camps Create Family Bonding
Day CampThe Iowa 4-H Center has three camps that encourage family time, in fact, require it. For a weekend during the summer, parents and children are invited to spend the night and make some memories.
"Families are able to come to camp and escape the normal routine of life. They get the opportunity to explore new activities while strengthening their relationships," said Abbie Parker, Iowa 4-H Center program specialist.
The family camps are tailored toward parents and children, but mentors, grandparents and other extended family members above 18 years of age are welcome to attend with a child.
