Nearly 700 Iowa 4-H youth, families and friends cheered on the Iowa State University Women's Basketball team during 4-H Day at Hilton Coliseum. "The Cyclones lost the Jan. 14 game to Texas A&M, but our 4-H'ers still had a great time cheering for the Cyclone women and visiting the Iowa State campus," said Shelly Greving, Iowa 4-H Foundation marketing director.  We at the Iowa 4-H Foundation are quite excited about the 3rd Annual Iowa 4-H Gala, which is quickly approaching! The event will take place on Saturday, February 25th at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Des Moines! There is still time to sign up to attend the event, so register today! A block of rooms has been reserved under the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Call (800) 514-4681 to make reservations. We would encourage you to make reservations soon as rooms are filling up quickly.
With nearly 75 items currently included in this year's auction and more items still being added, we thought we would feature a few to get you excited!
New for 2012! we are showcasing the work from several Iowa 4-H'ers. They have donated their exhibits and proceeds from these items will be split between the 4-H'ers club or county and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
Recycled Metal Crane Art - Alisa Behrens, a very creative 4-Her from Scott County created this beautiful Metal Crane. She used many skills to create this one of a kind metal crane including welding and brazing techniques. This crane stands 5ft tall and would be a neat addition to anyone's outside landscape. Half the proceeds from this project will be returned Alisa's club and county. Donated by: Alisa Behrens
"High Tech Tucks" Wall Hanging - This colorful, wall hanging quilt, created by an Iowa 4-H'er, Hayley Sieren, from Washington County, is a beautiful addition to anyone's collection. Selected to compete at the 2007 Iowa State Fair, this item is an award winning piece. Half of the proceeds from this photo will be donated to the Limecreek Lime Lights 4-H club in Washington County. Southern Cyclone Dinner for Four - Cyclone fans, Are You Ready? Join hosts Peggy and Jeff Johnson, President of the ISU Alumni Association, for a five-course Southern dinner for four in their home at an agreed-upon time in 2012. The Johnsons, who were born and raised in Mississippi, will prepare the meal using family recipes. The dinner will be served on family china.  | New Peyton Family Scholarship |
Sue and Harold Peyton of Sac County have recently established the Peyton Family Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Iowa State University student in a major related to agriculture who will be a sophomore, junior or senior in fall 2012.
To be eligible for the Peyton scholarship, students must be former 4-H members from Iowa or Oklahoma, have demonstrated strong community service and leadership in 4-H and at Iowa State and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation offers nearly 120 scholarships every year and we thank all of the donors who continue their support of Iowa's 4-H youth and alumni.
