Celebrate National 4-H Week!

4-H CloverIt is National 4-H Week, and the Iowa 4-H Foundation along with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is celebrating 4-H youth who have made an impact on Iowa communities, and are stepping up to the challenges of a complex and changing world. In many Iowa counties, county 4-H programs are hosting celebrations and inviting youth to learn about and enroll in 4-H.

"National 4-H Week is a time to celebrate the contributions 4-H youth make," said Judy Levings, ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development assistant director. "It also is a time to renew our commitment to strong 4-H youth programs." Read More>>

Wear your 4-H colors with pride this week and consider making a donation to continue the legacy of 4-H.

Got Grain? Gift it to 4-H!

Harvest time in IowaGive a gift of grain this year that will benefit youth in your community while helping you save on your taxes. A donation of grain is an easy way for Iowa farm families to show their support for the 4-H Program and make sure 4-H continues for future generations.Giving grain instead of cash can also help farmers save on their self-employment, federal income and state income taxes.*
Here's how to give grain to 4-H:
1. Deliver the grain to your local elevator or co-op.
2. Transfer the grain to the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
3. Ask for a warehouse receipt showing the Iowa 4-H Foundation as the owner.
4. Contact the 4-H Foundation (515-294-1537 or and tell them where the grain is stored.  The Foundation will order the sale of the grain with the original sales invoice.
5. Tell others how easy it is to donate grain and make an impact on 4-H!

Iowa 4-H County Histories Now Virtual

Keokuk 4-H HistoryThe Iowa 4-H Foundation has just launched a new blog detailing the history of Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development.
Clay, Keokuk and Page counties are the first to have the history of their 4-H programs published. Over the next two years, 4-H staff and volunteers will be reviewing additional county 4-H histories, with two to four being published on the blog each month.
The idea that led to the blog took root 10 years ago during Iowa 4-H's centennial year, when several 4-H volunteers and ISU Extension staff members started talking about writing an illustrated history of 4-H in Iowa. Their dream has now become a reality that everyone can see and add their personal stories to. If you have an interest in helping compile or review county histories, please contact Florine Swanson.
