Calling on You For Support

When you hear your phone ring, be ready to talk with one of the many Iowa State University students who are calling people like you as a part of the annual Iowa 4-H CallAThon! We need your help to grow the number of youth involved in the program and to keep the 4-H vision a reality.

In 2010, with the help of a special matching gift program offered by Pioneer Hi-Bred, the CallAThon raised $152,010 to help grow the 4-H Program in all 99 counties.

This year, we hope you will answer the call to make your

4-H, your commitment. If you'd rather not get a call, but wish to support 4-H, please donate online.

Everyone Wins With a Gift Annuity
If you are looking for a way to better utilize your cash investments, a charitable gift annuity may be of interest to you! Most gift annuity donors are retired, want to increase their cash flow, seek the security of fixed payments, and would like to save on taxes.

A charitable gift annuity offers donors a way to support the Iowa 4-H Foundation while receiving valuable tax benefits and fixed income payments.  The donor transfers assets to the Foundation in exchange for its promise to pay the donor an annuity.  The annuity payment will neither increase nor decrease; it is not affected by interest rates or the stock market. Charitable gift annuities are the most popular life-income planned gift available.

Contact Rae VonHoldt, Foundation development director, by email or at (515) 480 - 0510, to see if an annuity is a good option for you.  She will provide a personal financial illustration showing how your income tax situations might be affected, formulate your annuity percentage rate (based on age), and determine the amount of annual annuity payments.

4-H'ers for 4-H Campaign Going Strong
The 4-H'ers for 4-H Campaign is on a record-setting pace with 12% of their goal raised so far! The top five contributing counties are currently Kossuth, Webster, Guthrie, Benton and Cerro Gordo!

The 2011 campaign goal is to raise $30,000 from current Iowa 4-H members. In order to reach this goal, campaigners are asking each 4-H club to donate $2.50 per member. Clubs that meet this goal receive a special certificate at their county recognition event and the top contributing county and region will be recognized at the 2011 State 4-H Youth Conference in June!

We hope your club will join in the efforts! Print your campaign form and return it with your donaton to your county Extension office by May 15!
4-H Stories from ISU Staff and Students

An estimated 200,000 living 4-H alumni, just in the state of Iowa, have benefitted from the values of the 4-H program and we want to share that impact with others! In order to do so, we are continually collecting 4-H stories about how 4-H has influenced individual's lives, families and communities. Here are a few stories we've collected to help share the impact 4-H is making in the lives of Iowa State University staff and students!

4-H Inspires Expert Event Planner

Jennifer Tabke"Learning by doing" is something Jen Tabke did since her days as a young 4-H'er. Now, as a coordinator for Conference Planning and Management at Iowa State University Extension, she has the opportunity to use her communication and management expertise everyday.

"In 4-H, you're able to dabble and learn a little about a lot of things," Tabke said.  "I knew that if I really enjoyed something, there were opportunities for me to grow and expand. 4-H gave me the tools to carve out a career."
