The Special Event  - New Orleans January 12

TSE Logo   CLICK PICTURE FOR CONFERENCE WEBSITE

On January 12, I will be giving a presentation on how to create meaningful and relevant corporate entertainment at "The Special Event" in New Orleans.

The Special Event is a well attended event industry conference.  It should be a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to attending other classes there as well.

Here is a description of the presentation:

"Meaningful Entertainment: Making Entertainment Relevant
in a Changing Corporate Culture"

A lively, instructive discussion about changing cultural demands in corporate entertainment. The culture of big spending and visual "wow" has shifted substantially due to a slow economy, the pressures of optics and perceived overspending, a redefining of ROI, and an increasing need to connect with participants on an emotional and human level. Discover how to effectively propose and deliver relevant and meaningful entertainment in a "Back to Basics" era while still delivering a "Wow Factor" punch.

ABOUT TRAVER CONCERT SERVICES

DLVP's audio partner (Traver Concert Services) was the exclusive backline vendor for this year's NFR headliners at the Golden Nugget, Las Vegas.   The company provided backline and audio equipment for Lonestar, Clay Walker, John Michael Montgomery,  Rodney Atkins, and the up and coming group the "Lone Starlets."

This put me in the "roadie role" for a change, but I was still able to hang backstage with the artists.  I love working with country acts.  They are some of the nicest people around.

National Anthem at Cavs vs. Suns

I was invited to sing the National Anthem at the December 21, 2009 Phoenix Suns vs Cleveland Cavaliers game by Phoenix Suns President and GM Steve Kerr, a long time friend.  The gig went great, and it was a thrill to perform for over 18,000 people in the sold out US Airways Arena.  You can check out the pics and watch the video below.  My husband Bob was my "escort" all day ... oh and he is from Cleveland and couldn't pass up the chance to watch the incredible LeBron James in action.

ZowieBowie Zowie Bowie ends its run ... for now

Zowie BowieZowie Bowie's run at the Monte Carlo has come to an end.  There may be a reworking of the show at another venue, possibly without lead singer Marley Taylor, but that is still TBA.

Lisa Mayer and I were featured backup singers in Zowie Bowie's "Vintage Vegas" show at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas.  The show was a throwback to "Old Vegas"  and paid homage to Steve and Edie, Elvis, the Rat Pack, and all of the great entertainers that made Las Vegas the Entertainment Capital of the World, featuring a stellar 17 - piece big band, fantastic arrangements, Lon Bronson as Conductor, and special surprise guests every week.

The Year in Review

Small Headshot

I would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year!  2009 was full of excitement, ups and downs, and major changes for me on a personal and professional level.  Here are just a few highlights:

Most importantly, I married my wonderful new husband Bob Traver in October of 2009.  It was a beautiful wedding, and I am looking forward to our new life together.  He is a terrific guy, and I am so blessed to have him in my life.

I also became a published author, and I am in the process of writing a new book on the music industry, from a female perspective.  I have begun to teach a series of seminars that center on some of the topics in my book and I will also be forming an online community for female singers centered around the book in 2010.

In July of 2009, I had the honor of being invited to be a presenter at the National Medical Association's annual convention in Las Vegas where I spoke to a group of otolaryngologists (ear nose and throat doctors.)  My presentation was entitled "The Language of Vocal Health - Improving Communication Between Singers and Doctors."  I also gave a master class on vocal health, which was attended by several local vocalists.  Presenting at the convention was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I have definitely been bitten by the presenter bug.  It is so much fun to share information and also learn from others.

The ongoing recession led me to rethink my business model, and as a result my event production company took on a new approach to attracting new business.  I will be giving a presentation on this new approach at "The Special Event"  Conference in New Orleans this January.  This annual conference caters to Event Professionals and offers exhibits and educational programs on the latest trends in the event production industry.  It is attended by hundreds of event professionals every year.

Most recently, I was fortunate enough to become a monthly regular at the Brendan's Pub Tuesday night jazz series inside the Orleans.  This gives me a chance to sing jazz standards in an intimate setting alongside some amazing musicians.  This month's show is coming up on Tuesday January 4th. Please stop by and say hi!

I hope that you have a happy, healthy and prosperous year.  Please keep in touch with me and remember to pursue your passion in 2010.
