Greetings!
Where has 2010 gone? Like many of you, as I spend time reflecting back - I see how God has used the ministry here to shape my heart to trust Him more and give me the desire to love and minister to the people here.
The ministry here is made possible by your support and I want to personally thank you for that. Your prayers have refreshed and protected, and donations toward our DCI programs have enabled us to give people hope. Please read Joel's amazing story below and how being disabled did not stop him from pursuing learning how to read.
From across the miles, I am thankful to be able to rejoice with you the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior. Please continue to pray for the ministry and I look forward to sharing with you in 2011 more stories of how your support, whether spiritually or financially, has changed lives, given people hope, and a heart to love Jesus.
May our God who loves without limits - be a source of never ending joy as he teaches us how to love others as He.
Merry Christmas.

The Gift of Hope |
|
| | Joel drumming in church |
Your prayers and donations are giving the gift of hope and changing lives.
I want to introduce a recent graduate of our DCI Adult Literacy Program whose life has been changed through the gift of literacy. Joel is disabled and has been marginalized in a society that has no margins for the weak and seemingly useless. He was without hope of being anything but a burden. But he has been given a great gift, a gift of hope, and Joel in turn has "paid it forward" by giving hope to many others.
Joel is a literacy graduate from our Kaplegeb church center. He was crippled by polio as a youth and must crawl and walk with only his hands. Wheelchairs and therapy don't exist here. Never allowed to go to school (not considered a worthy investment), he has tried to take care of himself through subsistence farming - extraordinarily difficult with his severe handicap. He could not manage a business without basic math skills and reading and writing. Now that he has his DCI basic literacy education, he has started a small business - a shop in the village center. He makes enough living to hire labor for his farm, which now makes a profit, so he can now help others in the community. Suddenly, he is a member of the community. Christ has made the lame to walk.

Better Together |

Thank you to both regular givers and special needs givers. Regular givers allow us to make committments to our people and know that we can start and see programs through, like the 2 1/2 year literacy program, and special needs givers remind us that God always provides exactly what is needed. Current special needs include a generator, and donors to our car fund.
You can click on the link here to make a special donation, send a donation to the address shown below, or send me an email letting me know that you are praying for us. We take great joy that you are all God's tools in the work that continues here.
Thanks for helping us get this far. Please remember if you are making year-end donations that the post marks must be by December 30 - December 31 is a postal holiday this year; or you can make a donation online.
Merry Christmas and Thank You from the Development Companions Int'l Board |
