2011 Fishing Season Recap
We logged another great year for the Cape May Marlin and Tuna club in 2011 with 818 marlin releases on record. This was down slightly from 895 in 2012 but considering the hurricane fiasco in August, it's a great number that is double 2008...and triple that of 2007. This steadily increasing number of releases is a great sign for our fishery.
Included in those counts are some special catches that are worth highlighting again. Club member Bill Meyer on Fishaholic released the first White out of Cape May on June 4 and Brad Franks, a fast rising Jr Angler, released the First Blue Marlin from Waynes World on June 26. Judge led the white marlin category with 99 in range whites and Krazy Salts won the off-shore category with 109 points. We also recorded a 220 lb tuna on Trust Me Too and Nasty Habits sailfish in May, all of which can be found on the 2011 leaderboard.
Our off-shore tournaments had some of the strongest participation in a decade and we hope to have your support in continuing to build out these great events. Speaking of which, our Striper Tournament was rescheduled to this weekend 11/19.
Annual Gala
A big thank you the banquet committee who once again put together a great event at the Grand. We recognized 27 first white marlin and 7 first blue marlin anglers along with a number of tournament and catch awards. The DJ got us on the dance floor and the annual club video was premiered.
