Fishing Sunrise

Mitch Roffer Presentation February 2, 2010

Overview from Mitch - This event to be held at The Cape May Marlin and Tuna club will be a talk on the scientific method of improving one's fish per gallon ratio, i.e. improving one's efficiency in locating concentrations of feeding fish and catching them.   It will not be a ROFFS™ infomercial.

I will review some of the satellite fisheries oceanographic research and operational work  that I have been involved with at ROFFS™,  NASA  and NOAA, Office of Homeland Security (including search and rescue), and various state and federal environmental protection agencies (hazardous materials monitoring).

The seminar will focus on what is a preferred habitat and catchability, in terms of water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, clarity/turbidity, and water color.

The subjects of preferred habitat and catchability will be linked to different strategies and tactics that anglers should use to increase their catch rates in relation to the main factors affecting fish in the northeast (temperature, water color,  water density, and bottom structure).

We will consider ocean convergence zones in forming concentrations of baitfish and finding concentrations of feeding fish.

There will be a question and answer period at the end of the 60-75 minute seminar starting at 7pm.  The club will open at 6pm that night.  No charge, open to the public, limited seating.

Stand up for our fishing rights
We are rapidly losing our rights to fish and it's happening now. I think that if any of us thought Recreational fishing was the problem we would be happy to have it addressed. However, we spend time on the water, see the real data and the real problems. Misguided regulations are crushing recreational fishing while these same regulators have managed many stocks to devastation. Special interests, PEW, foreign fleets and certain commercial groups are writing the rules with support from the current administration and their extreme voices seem to be the only ones being heard. Meanwhile, the big problems which primarily are outside recreational fishing, continue and are even receiving support. We can't let this continue for the fish, the environment, or our freedom to continue the sport we love.

In a show of solidarity and support, a march on Washington is being coordinated by organizations across the country.  If you can make it to DC, please stand up for the sport we value so much on Feb 24.
We value your membership
Consider joining a committee this year or participating on the board. Membership, tournaments, PR, there's something for everyone.  We really want to engage the next generation of leaders for our club so if you have an interest consider serving on the board where you'll play an increased role in shaping the present and future of our historic club.

Our membership ranks may be the highest our club has ever seen.  Your membership enables club operations and events and your participation makes this place great.

Thank you,

The 2009 video, featuring member photo's and video, is now live on our photo site as well as Facebook.  It hasn't grossed as much as Avatar but we think you'll like it.

If the director has his way, the 2010 video will do a feature section for each boat that submits content.  We're also looking at some upgrades to the photo site.  More to come...
