Why Come to Keene?

For
October 20
Noon-8:30PM

Three hundred and sixty-four days a year Keene, NH, is a quintessential New England community with a pristine church at the head of a welcoming square. On October 20, 2012, that square will abound with jack-o'lanterns carved by area school children! The bandstand will come alive with entertainment and a tower of pumpkins so spectacular it is called "spell-binding". Delectables in the Food & Craft Court will send forth aromas of apple crisp and maple cotton candy throughout the pumpkin-lined city streets.

Eight world records and 21 years later, Keene Pumpkin Festival is the darling of New England events. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 per adult plus a carved pumpkin.

We have AVIS rental cars available at the FBO.  Please call us for help with a car, dinner, or lodging  reservation.

Barbecue Saturday

Hard to believe it is the third Saturday of the month already.  That makes it barbecue day at Monadnock Aviation!  Please join us at noon for a meal and good conversation-- the good conversation part is a suggestion not a promise!

For all who volunteered at the air show last weekend, we will be here to debrief at 1:00.  I am looking for your ideas on what worked, what did not work, and ways to improve for the next air show.  If you can not make it, feel free to email me your thoughts.

Congratulations Dan

Congratulations to Dan Batchelder who eared his Private Pilot License this month!  Dan has been an absolute pleasure to have around as a student.  He has demonstrated an eagerness to learn and be a part of the aviation community. Dan trained with CFI Rick Bendel in our Piper Warrior.  His check ride was with DPE Greg Livernois.  Congratulations Dan!

Congratulations Elliott

Congratulations to Elliott Turner who completed his first solo flight this month. Elliott has all the makings of a fine pilot. Look for him in the sky! Elliott trains with CFI Rick Bendel in our Cessna 172. Well done Elliott!
Cheshire Children's Museum

We did it!  The Cheshire Children's Museum opened last month and it featured a beautiful Midget Mustang exhibit!  There were lights and dials and switches galore in the cockpit.

The plane was mobbed by kids on opening day and every time I have seen it since then.  If you think flight simulators and video games have replaced kids' desires to experience flight then let this museum experience put that to rest.  Kids are still interested!

Warren Hurd (EAA Chapter 1314), David Osgood (New England Aeronautical Society), and Rich Nunn (Auto Zone) were great partners in making this happen.
Collings Foundation

We are thrilled to announce that we are part

of The Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom 2012 Tour! The Foundation will bring their B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator and P-51 Mustang to Monadnock Aviation on September 19th, 20th, and 21st. That's next week!

Collings

Both aerial tours and ground displays will be available. Scouting and school groups are very welcome to come out and see these beautiful aircraft. I have posters regarding the event at the FBO. Feel free to grab one and hang it where you think people will be interested.

Testing Center

Monadnock Aviation is now a PSI/Lasergrade Testing Center!  You can take all of the FAA written exams and many non-FAA professional certification tests right here in Keene!
Keene Air and Auto Show 2012

What a grand weekend it was!  We had about 5000 people out to the airport last weekend to see the show.  It was exactly what you would hope to see.  Engines growling at the sky and defying gravity, kids sitting in airplanes, cool pilots strutting about, families on blankets looking skyward, a huge variety of food, smiling faces, and more.

To the 75 volunteers that came out each day to make this happen, thank you.  I am so impressed by the number and quality of people who came together to pull this off.  Might I mention that many were not even aviation people, they volunteered just to be a part of something big!

Here are a few pics from the weekend.

A terrific weekend to all.
