Barbecue Saturday

All are invited to join us Saturday at noon for a barbecue.  Snow or shine, we'll be here!

An exciting speaker will be with us on Saturday.  We have special guest Linda Cioffi who will present pictures and insight gained from her trips flying a small aircraft to and in Alaska.  You can register for this Wings Program seminar at this link.  Please join us for this presentation Saturday during the barbecue.
Congratulations

Congratulations to Jesse Stillwagon for his first solo flight two weeks ago.  Jesse came to us with the goal of earning his ticket in three weeks before returning overseas for work.  He dedicated himself all day, everyday to flying and ground school studies.  With hard work, lots of practice in the simulator and aircraft, and cooperative weather he is now scheduled to take his check ride!  Jesse trained with CFI Rick Bendel in our Cessna 172.
Small Airframe Needed

The Cheshire Children's Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing unique learning experiences to the children of the Monadnock Region.  They are now organizing their exhibits and would love to place an aircraft in the museum for children to sit in, turn all of the knobby things, and dream.

To assist the Children's Museum, we are looking for a small airframe donation.  Space is somewhat limited in the museum but we will volunteer our time to make the aircraft work in the space available.

Please email me if you have an airframe, small flight suits, or other items that you are willing to donate to this exhibit.  The donations will go to a non-profit organization and are tax deductible.
Redbird Flight Simulator

You may find it too cold and icy to fly your aircraft but our Redbird flight simulator is climate controlled!
 Redbird
Our flight instructors can control most parameters of your flight including
weather, equipment failures, and other simulated
emergency situations.  We can also reposition the "aircraft" to the VOR or elsewhere with the push of a button -- making the simulator a very efficient way to train.

We offer block time savings too!  A 3 hour block of flight instruction in the simulator costs $260, a $55 savings over normal pricing.  A 6 hour block of instruction costs $490, a $140 savings over normal pricing.  These offers can also be purchased as gift certificates to give to that special pilot in your life!

Off Airport Landing

We received an interesting call on Christmas Eve.  The call was from one of our student pilots.  He apologized for disturbing our holiday and said he was on the golf course in Keene.  Seemed a bit chilly for golf that day but I thought maybe it was his passion...

He went on to explain that he had been practicing maneuvers for his checkride in his Cessna when the engine stopped.  With no recognized indication of a problem brewing, it caught him quite by surprise.  Nonetheless, he put his emergency procedures to immediate use.  His training kicked in and he remembered to fly the plane!  He communicated the situation on the radio and set up to land off airport.  Despite a few trees on the course, the landing was safe and controlled.  The pilot, the aircraft, and the golf course were left unscathed.

This is a great reminder to fight complacency and remain proficient at all times.  Emergencies do happen.  They can happen at any time without regard for your flight's purpose, aircraft type, passengers on board or experience level.  Are you prepared?

Dead Stick Takeoff

Losing your engine in flight is pretty bad but who would consider taking off like this?  I'll show you. Take a look at this dead stick takeoff.
