Why Come to Keene?

For An American Hero!

John Katsaros is a World War II veteran.  A B-17 crew member shot down over Reims, France, John parachuted from 25,000 feet, survived, but was captured and became a POW.  He escaped with help of the Free French Resistance, but it took numerous attempts until he would be out of the camp for good. John then faced the Pyrenees Mountains as his new barrier to freedom.  He conquered the mountains and finally reached freedom in Spain.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, British Flying Boot, French Resistance ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon, World War II Victory and POW Medal, Caterpillar award and two Presidential Unit Citations.

John will be at the Cathedral of the Pines this Sunday at 2:00pm to tell his amazing story.  We do have rental cars available or we can use our courtesy car as a shuttle if there is great demand.

Want Another Reason to Come to Keene?

For Pumpkins!

This Saturday is the 20th annual Keene Pumpkin Festival.  Have you ever seen over 25,000 carved pumpkins in one place?  We have!  It is very cool.  Pack the kids in the plane and come to Keene!  There are activities and events throughout the day.

The event takes place from 10:00am until 9:00pm and we have arranged for shuttle service to and from the festival for those who fly into Monadnock Aviation!

No Saturday Barbeque

Just a short newsletter this time to say that, because of all of the activity surrounding the Pumpkin Festival, we are not going to hold the barbeque this weekend.   We'll pick up as usual at noon on November 6th.  Hope to see you then.
Safety Seminars

Did you know you can receive notices whenever a safety seminar is scheduled near you?  FAASafety.Gov  has information about seminars, the FAA Safety Team, the WINGS Program, and more.

November 16 Post Accident Survival
Most aircraft accidents are survivable. Whether the pilot and passengers remain alive to be rescued is often a matter of whether they were prepared for the post-accident survival situation. This seminar will focus on how to be prepared for basic land survival in winter conditions.  The speakers are John Wood from the Portland FSDO and Rick Bendel, CFI.

January 18 - Medical Certifications
Dr. Clark, FAA New England Region Regional Flight Surgeon, and Dr. Ray, Deputy Flight Surgeon, will discuss pilot medical certifications.  We will make sure to leave plenty of time for individual questions and answers.
