Saturday Barbeque

Come one.  Come all.  Please join us for a free barbeque at Monadnock Aviation on Saturday at noon.   Maybe we'll all get lucky and mom will bring her almost-world-famous Cowboy Cookies!
Online Courses

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association  (AOPA) has fantastic online and interactive courses available for both members and
non-members.  Their latest course "Thunderstorms and ATC" is a great course and very timely during the summer flying season.  The course describes the problems associated with flying near and around thunderstorms, pilot and controller weather responsibilities and capabilities, using NEXRAD radar returns for in-flight weather avoidance and real-life accounts concerning pilots and thunderstorm experiences.  The courses can be found online at www.aopa.org/asf/online_courses/.

Check out the courses and sip from AOPA's goblet of knowledge!
Deer are Cute

Deer are cute, but do not mingle well with propellers.  We have seen quite a few deer on the ramp and runway in Keene in the last few weeks.   Please be sure you know what is in front of you!
Ideas Wanted

If you read any flying magazines or blogs you have probably seen discussion about how to market aviation to non-aviators.  How do we reach out to younger people and keep general aviation alive in years to come?

The flying community does a good job of marketing services to other pilots, but does the industry really reach out and attract new pilots?   As pilot numbers shrink it is likely that general aviation availability and services will shrink also.

The expense. The risk.  The time.  How do we help people to accept these hurdles and still pursue their interest in aviation?  Likewise, how do we spark that interest in someone who did not even know it was there?

I would like to know your ideas on this matter.  If you have an opinion, please email me or post it on our facebook site.
Safety Seminars

Did you know you can receive notices whenever a safety seminar is scheduled near you?  FAASafety.Gov  has information about seminars, the FAA Safety Team, the WINGS Program, and more.

July 20-  There is no seminar this month.  We have changed the originally scheduled seminar to September 21st due to speaker availability.

August 17- Pilot Liability.
Mark Santangelo will present his views and experience regarding pilot liability.  Mark is a CFII, a FAASTeam Representative and an aviation attorney.  He will focus his discussion on legal liability issues for pilots. What situations pose the greatest liability potential and what can you do to mitigate the risk? An in-depth examination of current regulations and actual examples will illustrate how the legal system operates in a post-accident environment.

September 21
Lost and found.
FAA New England Region Deputy Flight Surgeon Dr. Joseph Ray will be here to answer your medical certification questions.  Every pilot needs to be medically fit to fly, and most pilots need an FAA medical certificate to fly legally. So how does a prudent pilot lead a lifestyle that will lead to flight fitness? And what does a pilot do if he/she becomes medically unfit for flight? This seminar will answer questions about health conditions that lead to the loss of a medical certificate, and the steps necessary to have that certificate reinstated.  Dr. Ray will take you step-by-step through the details.  Have your medical certification questions answered by the expert.
