Barbeque Saturday

This is barbeque Saturday!  Please join us at Keene's FBO at noon for great food, great company, and great airplanes. Plus, it's free!

Sonex Builders Fly-In

The Sonex Builders Second Annual Fly-in at Keene is this Saturday, June 19th.  The builders will gather around 10:00 at the terminal and be with us all day.  They'll join us for our barbeque at noon.   Check out this video from last year's event.
Keene Aviation Day and Airshow

Wow!  I am still so overwhelmed by the success of our airshow.  Thank you to all who crossed their fingers for good weather and wished us well.

There were many aircraft on display, the USFormation Flight Army Black Daggers parachute team, lots of aerobatic flying, wing walking, tethered hot air balloon rides, radio controlled aircraft, the Terrafugia Transition flying car, helicopter rides, a P-51 Mustang, T-6 Texans, Yaks, a C-130, Young Eagles flights, and so much more.  Check our website for more details

Here are a few numbers.  We had over 6500 spectators attend-- not bad as we opened a bit late and ended the event early due to a tornado warning.  We had over 60 volunteers work tirelessly.  The non-profit organizations took in well over $20,000 in a few short hours.  And all of this on a day where miserable weather was forecast!

To all of our airshow volunteers, please join us at our barbeque this Saturday.  We would like to show our appreciation to you.  Also, we'll spend a few minutes and debrief.  We want to hear your observations and comments about what worked and what did not work.

Thank you to all who made this day a success.  It was absolutely a team effort.  We are already planning for next year!
Candy from the Sky

We recently had the opportunity to host about 60 Candy Dropkindergartners from a Keene elementary school on a field trip to the airport.  The children had just completed  transportation studies and a trip to see airplanes just made sense.  The kids toured our hangar and each sat in an airplane.

They touched every knob, button, and dial they could reach!  Their event Candy Dropended with a great surprise--nearly 20 pounds of candy falling from the sky!  Dave and John were kind enough to volunteer the aircraft and their time for the candy drop.  Oh, the smiles on their little faces when they realized what was happening-- the kids I mean, not Dave and John...  I heard many kids comment that this was "the best field trip ever".   I suspect  many will remember this day their entire lives.  I wonder how many discovered their love for aviation?

Safety Seminars

Did you know you can receive notices whenever a safety seminar is scheduled near you?  FAASafety.Gov  has information about seminars, the FAA Safety Team, the WINGS Program, and more.

June 15Flying the New York VFR Corridor.   On November 19, 2009 the FAA issued an amendment to Part 93.  This amendment established a Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) in the vicinity of New York City and defines operational procedures for pilots within the SFRA. With the advent of the SFRA many of the former "recommendations" have now become regulatory. This seminar will present all the new rules for flying in the SFRA. It will also point out the hazards and risks, and demonstrate how to fly the route safely and legally.

Doug is the National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year for 2004. A Master Certified Flight Instructor, Gold Seal Instructor, and Designated Pilot Examiner, he is based at the Columbia County Airport (1B1) in Hudson, NY.

Mexican Food and Fishing

Have you been to Parlin Field (2B3) lately?  Could make for a nice day trip.  There is a Mexican restaurant right on the field and courtesy bicycles are readily available for trips into nearby Newport.  If that is not good enough, the Sugar River parallels the runway and, rumor has it, there is great trout fishing where it joins Croydon Brook.   Enjoy the day!
