Why Come to Keene?

Solas
Saturday March 13
8pm

Solas has been loudly proclaimed by the press as one of the most popular, influential and exciting Celtic bands ever to emerge from the United States. They can play undiluted traditional Irish music, and have a resume that is proof of the universality of Celtic music and its equality to jazz, rock, folk, or bluegrass. Their fresh approach transcends musical genres into the realm of pure musical expression that only a handful of musicians attain!

I would be happy to help you with hotel, restaurant, or rental car reservations.

Barbeque This Saturday

All are welcome at our barbeque.  The weather looks terrific and the cooking starts at noon.  Hamburgers, hotdogs, plus so much more...and always free.
IMC Club

We are thrilled to announce the first meeting of the IMC Club will be April 12th at 6:00pm at Monadnock Aviation.  I am working on the agenda now and will send it with the next newsletter.

A terrific group of pilots with a variety of experience levels have expressed interest in being a part of this.  The goal is to help instrument rated pilots maintain proficiency and help instrument students gain proficiency.  There is no cost to be a part of this.

Please save the date-- it will be fun and informative.
Need Aircraft Maintenance?

We are proud to offer a complete aircraft maintenance shop with two full time A&P mechanics.  Our shop is open Monday through Saturday, from 8am to 5pm.

We can usually accommodate walk-in customers for minor servicing or we can schedule you for larger jobs/annual inspections.

We provide you a parts and labor estimate prior to doing any work and a detailed invoice after the work is complete.  If you are looking for professional quality aircraft maintenance, done with your safety in mind, please talk to us about your needs.
The Airport Manager Says...

We are pleased to announce that the Airport will soon have an active Remote
EEN RCO
Keene RCO
Communications Outlet (RCO).  RCO's are remote aviation band radio transceivers, established to extend to communication capabilities of flight service stations.

In practical terms, the new RCO will eliminate the difficulty reaching flight service from location on the ground.  As we all know, radio communication at the Keene Airport are frequently blocked by the surrounding terrain. Pilots can find RCO frequencies in charts or publications such as the Airport/Facility Directory. The RCO is used to make a radio call to the outlet as if the pilot were making the call directly to the FSS. The outlet will relay the call (and the briefer's response) automatically.

RCO's are sometimes confused with RTR's, or remote transmitter/receivers. In fact, the difference between the two is subtle. While RCO's serve flight service stations, RTR's serve terminal air traffic control facilities. RCO's and RTR's may be UHF or VHF and are divided into a variety of classes determined by the number of transmitters or receivers.

The system should be active by the end of the month.  Frequency: 121.6

That's Fancy Flying!

The onset of warm weather has brought all kinds of "interesting and innovative" pattern work to Keene.  We are here to help if you would like to brush up on the basics before kicking off the spring season.  We have two flight instructors (CFI/CFII/MEI) and can use your aircraft or ours.

If you would like to access our online flight scheduler, please let me know.  I will gladly create a log-in for you.
Sambel's Needs You

Sambel's Restaraunt, at the airport in Montpelier (KMPV), is hosting a cookout on April 3rd.  Bob and Brenda Sambel are very pilot friendly.  They are trying to gather media attention and pilot support to keep their doors open.  The food will flow at noon and the event should last until about 4pm.

The format will be an all-you-can eat cookout with hotdogs, hamburgers, salads, chips, and other goodies for $5.00.  Come enjoy the food and camaraderie as we assist a struggling airport business.

In support of the Sambel's event, we wil not host our regular barbeque at Keene that day.
Safety Seminars

Did you know you can receive notices whenever a safety seminar is scheduled near you?  FAASafety.Gov  has information about seminars, the FAA Safety Team, the WINGS Program, and more.

March 30-  Say It Right!
Doug Stewart presents AOPA's "Say It Right! Radio Communications in Today's Airspace"
Ever heard a radio call that made you scratch your head - or worse yet, cringe? Most of us, at one point or another, have struggled to find the right words on the radio. Attend this seminar and increase your communication know-how with practical tips on communicating in today's airspace. You'll also get straightforward advice on common pitfalls for VFR and IFR operations, communicating in an emergency, and coping with challenges at both towered and nontowered airports.  You will also learn:
  • Three words every pilot should know.
  • Some things you should check before squawking 7600 for lost communication.
  • The popular phrase the 2010 AIM says should NOT be used under any circumstances
Doug is the National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year for 2004. A Master Certified Flight Instructor, Gold Seal Instructor, and Designated Pilot Examiner, he is based at the Columbia County Airport (1B1) in Hudson, NY.

April 20-  Are you Covered? Doug Tibbs, from NationAir, will deliver a lively presentation on various aviation insurance issues.  They will include tips on how aircraft owners can lower their renewal premiums, fact and fiction regarding renter's insurance, and how an FBO's insurance covers you and how it does not.  We will also save time to answer your specific questions.  I promise that Doug will NOT try to sell you insurance!  His goal is to unravel the complexities of an important and ubiquitous aviation product. This seminar was originally scheduled for February 16th, but postponed due to bad weather.  Doug was gracious enough to offer another date.

Doug is a fantastic speaker.  He is a former corporate pilot and has been an aviation insurance broker for 8 years.  Doug runs the largest aviation insurance office in the northeast for one of the largest aviation insurance specialists in the country. He is also a CFI/CFII.

May 18- Boston TRACON - An Evening With ATC.  Airspace can be confusing; don't let it get the best of you.  Boston TRACON Air Traffic Control Specialist Bob Adelizzi will discuss how to conduct safe and efficient flight operations in different classes of airspace.  Be confident and competent while using ATC services and flying in controlled airspace. Bob has been a controller at Boston TRACON for twenty five years and affiliated with the FAA safety program for over twenty.   His "Evening with ATC" presentations are the highest attended safety programs in New England.
