DAVID'S PRAYER OF RESTORATION

Is there any area of your life where you have one foot in and one foot out with God? That's the definition of anxiety, a divided inner being. When our hearts are partially devoted to God, we trust in our giftedness, rather than godliness.

To get both feet in with God requires full surrender of our hearts. We surrender our impurities, our mixed devotions and relying on our giftedness rather than our godliness. Surrender says to God, "I can't. You can. I can't satisfy my desires with mixed devotions. You can when I am fully devoted to You." In order to do this, we need to pray David's prayer of restoration.

First, we ask God to search our heart for any mixed devotions: "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24). The way of everlasting comes with a pure heart, one that is fully devoted to God.

Second, we ask God to create in us a pure heart. "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10).

A life restored to authenticity moves us to search our hearts for any mixed devotion, any impurities, and seek renewal for a heart that is fully devoted to restoration in the Father.

Today, pray David's prayer of restoration and watch your anxiety fade.
