SECURITY

How much money would give you financial security?

Pride seeks security from money. Jesus taught, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear" (Matthew 6:25a). When our hearts are hard, we see money as the doorway to financial security. This leads us to a life of worry because the pursuit of money always leaves us fearful that we will not have enough. Deep in our hearts, we are trusting in ourselves.

The result is insecurity (Matthew 6:25b-32). In essence, financial security outside Christ never comes. Jesus commanded us to stop the cycle of insecurity, saying, "Do not worry" (Matthew 6:31). Worrying is for the proud who do not trust God; however, the humble trust that God knows their needs (Matthew 6:32).

In contrast, humility seeks first God's kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33a).

The result is the secure and satisfying truth of God in Christ (John 14:6). Jesus concluded, "And all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:33b-34). These things represent our needs. Paul reiterated, "And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

Today, trust wholeheartedly in the truth of God in Christ.
