| Greetings!
Well. Plus ça change.
Last time we wrote, shamefully over three months ago, we talked about change, and the kind of tools and techniques that those leading change might use to improve their chances of success.
And we're sure that without too much effort, you'll be able to identify some areas over the last three months where change and leadership has (or not) made a difference. Anyone fancy leading Europe at the moment? Or Greece...
In your own organisation, change is either happening, or will be. Organisations will have to change to survive or thrive in the near future. What will you do?
Join in the debate on our blog, and through Twitter. We'd love to hear your views.

Time for change?
We've spent most of our time of late reviewing how one client manages their organisation through change.
Fascinating, as it rapidly became clear that there was real distance between what the Executive had thought (decided) was necessary - and what their most immediate colleagues were ready to accept. Our client was right in his thinking, and his proposal for change had been heard with approval.
But...no real sense amongst the rest of the organisation that this was something at the top of their 'to-do' list. There was real danger of their changes suffering from a lack of attention. More work needed by the Executive.
We're firmly wedded to the Kotter model of Change Management, as explained in this blog and by the maestro himself. Read them for more.
The first step is...establishing a sense of urgency. Without it, it's easy to reduce the need for, attention to, and value of change.
Wouldn't happen with any of your changes, would it... |
Social distortion
Not the group, mind - although those with Guitar Hero or long memories will know that reference!
Sadly, though, something which could last as long as this band, still playing after thirty years. We're talking about the social disruption which is gripping capitals around the world. Right now. And which could last a long time, too...
The rationale is complicated and varied. We're not even sure there's a common demand, although there does seem to be a common grievance.
Whatever the cause, people and businesses are affected. Whatever the demands of protesters, disorder has victims. Whatever the resolution, organisations will have reputations to manage.
Which brings us to Business Continuity. If you haven't planned for this or any kind of disruption, perhaps you should. The Euro crisis is nowhere near being solved.
Good Business Continuity planning means that whatever the cause, you can recover. Here's our thoughts. Not pretty reading... |
| Please don't hire a project manager!
At least, not without good reason!
We've formed the view that. as Project Managers, not every project needs our expertise. Why?
We believe that projects can be defined as unique events brining about specific changes within agree timescales and budgets. This type of project can need more resource, knowledge or expertise than some organisations have.
There's another type of 'project' though - which does not need external help. In fact, we'd reduce the value of the project. We mean the type of special work that's done differently for clients than for the organisation. Read here for more. Save some cash - and problems! |
