The Center for Educational Leadership is pleased to announce the start of its Second Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy training program being launched at three locations in the Inland Empire.  The Fall 2009 program is once again designed to meet the growing need by individuals and small entrepreneurs to better understand how to start, grow and navigate their businesses in these troubled economic times. The program targets aspiring entrepreneurs, existing businesses and other individuals. Plans are underway to host workships at Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and Pomona training facilities

CDE Certification
The Pomona Valley Community Development Corporation (PVCDC), the for-profit parent of CEL was recently certified as a Community Development Entity (CDE) by the U.S. Treasury Department's CDFI Fund. Pomona Valley CDC, can  apply for New Market Tax Credits (NMTC) allocations. The 2009 CDE fund was $5.3 billion. The NMTC provides a credit against Federal income taxes for investors that make Qualified Equity Investments (QEIs) into Pomona Valley CDC. PVCDC in turn will use the proceeds of these investments to make business loans and equity investments in businesses and real estate projects in low-income communities. This new financial structure allows us to offer entrepreneurs a total microenterprise end-to-end solution.
 
Tech Coast Angels 
The PVCDC has formed an alliance with Tech Coast Angels the largest venture capital firm in the U.S. The Inland Empire Chapter of TCA will participate in a Venture Capital Forum luncheon to be held by CEL in December following the fall entrepreneurship training program. Graduates with business plans that have a broad market focus are chosen to pitch their ideas before a panel of judges made up of TCA members and other angel investors. Successful participants could be offered term sheets and funding deals in the six figures. PVCDC will pitch to TCA at their October meeting at Harvey Mudd College. We are seeking investors and governance support.
NASE Affiliation
The Center for Educational Leadership has partnered with the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) as an affiliate service provider. As a provider CEL is authorized to enroll entrepreneurs into NASE. New members of NASE have available to them more than $10,000 in professional services and products each year for a low monthly tax-deductable membership fee. Members are also eligible to apply for business development grants up to $5000.

Pomona Young Entrepreneurs
The goal of the Pomona Young Entrepreneur Boot Camp program is to develop leadership skills, improve academic achievement and promote a strong sense of self-worth and self-esteem through an intensive year long after school entrepreneurship education program in collaboration with Pomona Unified School Distric, Cal Poly College of Business Administration and the Center for Educational Leadership.
