Our work

Billy Briggs joins the INSP team

Billy Briggs' website

The INSP team has been joined by Billy Briggs, an award-winning Scottish journalist who focuses on human rights issues. He will be working with INSP as a part-time Media Consultant over the next few months. His focus will be on marketing and promotion of the development-related stories produced for INSP's Street News Service as part of an EU funded project

2011 Conference and Awards

2011 conference

75 delegates have so far registered for INSP's 2011 annual conference. The event will be held in Glasgow from 19th - 22nd July 2011, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and will also incorporate the 3rd bi-annual International Street Paper Awards. Judging for the awards took place last week with the help of a high profile judging panel chaired by INSP's Honorary President David Schlesinger. The shortlist will be announced soon.

SNS Development

INSP staff are currently working with a 'Member Working Group' to look at how best to develop and improve the Street News Service.  Staff are also working with a new 'SNS Advisory Committee' to discuss future strategy for the service. Feedback from the Working Group and Advisory Committee will be presented to street paper delegates at the 2011 conference, as the basis for an exciting panel discussion about the SNS as the 'The World's Most Streetwise News Agency'.

INSP in the developing world

As part of INSP's development work in Africa, INSP's project partner, Inter Press Service recently delivered special journalism training days for street papers in Malawi, Zambia and South Africa. The training days were part of INSP's project - 'Strengthening Civil Society & Developing Independent Media in Africa' - funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).

INSP is also currently working with several member street papers in Latin America to facilitate a consultant from Challenges Worldwide to work with them on business development.
