2011 INSP Conference and Awards

 

Crowne Plaza Hotel

The 2011 Annual Conference will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 20th - 22nd July 2011. The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, one of the principal event sponsors. 

 

The 3rd International Street Paper Awards will take place on the last day of the conference (Friday 22nd July). We are honoured to have a prestigious judging panel and pre-selection panel supporting the event. Read more about the 2011 award categories and judging panel here.

Prince William article boosts street paper sales

 

Prince WilliamThe exclusive SNS article written by Prince William has featured on street paper front pages, from the UK to France and from the USA to Japan. In the UK alone,vendors sold 70,000 extra copies,putting an impressive £70,000 more profit in the pockets of vendors on the streets of England, Scotland and Wales. Over forty street papers in Europe, North America, South America and Africa ran the Prince's message in their Christmas or January editions, and more are to follow in February. Development Work in Africa


INSP AfricaSven Mangels,
INSP's Regional Training and Development Manager (Africa) is currently working to support the development needs of Homeless Talk in Johannesburg. He will then go on to Lusaka to work closely with the staff and volunteers at The Big Issue Zambia and then on to Blantyre to The Big Issue Malawi. As part of INSP's UNDEF-funded project, Sven has also been working closely with NGOs and media organisations in Nigeria to carry out a feasibility about launching a new street paper in Lagos. He will travel back to Lagos in February to finalise pre-launch plans.

New SNS Intern
 

INSP has welcomed a new SNS intern this month. Victoria Prest recently graduated with a Masters degree in Journalism from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, and also has a degree in English from Edinburgh University. She recently worked as a journalist and English language teacher in the UK, and has also studied and volunteered in New Zealand and Ghana. Victoria replaces Chloe Dean who was INSP's SNS intern from August - December 2010. Chloe plans to do a Masters course in Visual Anthropology in 2011.
