As 2010 draws to an end, we would like to thank all the friends and supporters of the street paper movement for their help, support and hard work over the past year. December

Prince WilliamThe Street News Service struck gold when Prince William agreed to write an exclusive article especially for street papers. Read more. The Prince said that street papers "inspire me". He added: "They give homeless people the tools with which to rebuild their confidence and, ultimately, their lives". To read Prince WIlliam's article, click here. November

INSP reported that global readership of INSP street papers had increased by 10% since last year. Enders Analysis (the UK's leading media research company) described this as 'impressive', given the current trends in mainstream print media. The news was picked up by several newspapers and websites in the UK, including The Scotsman and ITN. Read more.
October

INSP campaignThe first of INSP's annual network-wide campaigns was published by nearly 70 street papers around the world, reaching a worldwide readership of over 3 million people. Read more. The campaign announced the news that 200,000 people had been helped out of homelessness by street papers. Read press release.
September

INSP launched its online hotel bookings service Hotels4Change as a fundraising tool. The service is a collaboration between INSP and Booking.com, Europe's leading online hotel provider. On every online hotel reservation that is booked through INSP's Hotels4Change website (via Booking.com), approximately 5% of the total amount is transferred to the INSP, at no extra cost to the customer.
August

INSP publically launched its online news agency the Street News Service and announced that Jon Snow (Channel 4 News) was Patron of the service. Click here to read more about the launch and watch the SNS promotional video featuring Jon Snow. The SNS also welcomed Tom Thomson (Herald & Times Group) as its Honorary Editor. Read more. INSP's news agency is now an important news source for street papers and media outlets and readers around the world.
July

INSP AfricaINSP employed Sven Mangels as its Regional Training and Development Manager, as part of the UNDEF funded project to develop the African street paper network. In the same month, the first-ever 'Annual Regional Meeting' of African street papers took place in Cape Town, with representatives from INSP's six African street papers in Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia. 
June

Through its pilot 'Global Advertising Project' INSP was able to secure significant funding from the Ministry of Tourism in Quebec. The funding paid for flights to INSP's conference in Melbourne for more than 40 delegates.
May

INSP's 15th annual conference took place in Melbourne, Australia, hosted by The Big Issue Australia. Read more. The conference; 'Global Collaboration, Real Solutions', marked the start of exciting network-wide collaborations, through several new projects, including the Street News Service, global advertising project and the international campaign. April

INSP confirmed the appointment of Danielle Batist as Editor of the Street News Service. And after several months of work, the brand new SNS website went live, marking the dawn of a new era for the Street News Service.
March

The Big Issue KoreaINSP welcomed 2 new North American street papers in March. Throughout 2010, the INSP network grew by 12 members. INSP now supports 115 street papers in 40 countries. Serbia, Taiwan and Korea (pictured) saw the launch of their first-ever street papers. Read more.

Word about the street paper movement continues to spread; in 2010, INSP responded to 152 enquiries from individuals and NGOs interested in starting a street paper.

February

INSP staffIn 2010, through
a UK Government employment scheme, INSP employed 3 temporary staff members on 6 month placements. 2010 also saw the core staff team grow to 5 people [pictured], with staff working from the Glasgow headquarters, as well as from Brazil and South Africa. Throughout the year, INSP also worked with 9 office-based interns and volunteers. Later in the year Nick Bevens (formerly of The Scotsman) joined the team as Media Consultant.

Honorary President and Patrons
INSP was honoured by the public support of Mayor Gunnar Bakke of Bergen, Norway as he became the latest Patron. Read more. He joined the Lord Provost of Glasgow (Patron) and Reuters' Editor-in-Chief, David Schlesinger (Honorary President) as INSP's esteemed figureheads. Read more.
