EU funded SNS project
INSP
is partnering with Inter Press Service to increase coverage of poverty issues
and distribution of poverty related news articles worldwide. The core of this
partnership is a three year (2010-2012) EU funded project that focuses on
reporting from the world's 'Least Developed Countries'. Part of the project
includes creating a stream of high quality journalistic articles covering the
Millennium Development Goals and their progress and shortfalls in the Least
Developed Countries. A number of INSP street papers in both Africa and Europe will be
reimbursed in exchange for submitting stories to the project. To distribute
this information widely across Europe, the project also involves a translation
service into different European languages. |
INSP Africa
The
first-ever 'Annual Regional Meeting of African street papers' took place on
21st and 22nd July in Cape Town, South Africa, with representatives from INSP's
six African street papers in Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia.
The meeting was facilitated by The Big Issue South Africa, the INSP's new
Regional Coordinator Samba Yonga and INSP Regional Trainer Sven Mangels
[pictured with the street paper representatives]. It was also attended by
a UNDEF project assessor. The meeting was the first big step to creating a
stronger more active network between the African street papers. This month also saw various journalism trainings for African street papers in
Cape Town, Johannesburg and Bujumbura. These were facilitated by Inter Press
Service, as part of the UNDEF project. |
