Yogi Bhajan - Who Am I, Really?

 by Hari Jiwan Singh

The Siri Singh Sahib started to speak. "I'll tell you how to gauge yourself? I'll tell you how to do it so that there's never a misunderstanding as to who you think you are!" We were seated at a table in Spain. I was just enjoying the French fries at the beach, our favorite afternoon destination. My mind was in a million different places. We were all seated around a long table and as soon as he spoke the table hushed into silence. "So there is no mistake, let me settle this once and for all. If you ever believe what your mind thinks, and I mean anything, you've got a long way to go. You're job is to follow, not think. The earth is full of many different paths to follow. Thank God we follow a truthful and royal path." Yes, 1982 was in interesting year...Read entire article

The Siri Guru Granth Sahib, in Procession

Sunday, October 21, is Guru Gaddee Day, the day we celebrate and honor the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. The schedule is as follows:

9:00 am: Breakfast at the Ranch, everyone invited.

10:00 am: A grand procession, known in India as a 'Nagar Kirtan', (involving gatka, the big drum, and live kirtan), from the Ranch, up Shady Lane to the Gurdwara, (carrying the Guru on our shoulders);

followed by a beautiful Gurdwara Service, and Langar.

Sat Nam! My name is Hardev Singh Khalsa. I'm 23. In 2009, I began to walk (or run) on the path of Raj Yog.  For 1.5 years I was a member of Guru Ram Das Ashram in Millis, MA. Very sweet sangat and landscape!

Then I lived in India for 6 months, serving at the School (MPA) as a sevadar, beginning in January, 2012. My original plan had been to go for one month and pay respects to the Harimander Sahib. However, I missed my flight, and Jugat Guru and Amrit Singh let me stay on at MPA.

Movies and TV without Cable or Satellite

by Guruka Singh

You can get all the entertainment you need from the Internet. Pretty much everyone knows about Netflix and Hulu Plus, but here are three good streaming-video sites that might be new to you.

Out-of-the-way video experiences on the Web

Streaming sites such as Netflix and Hulu Plus have wonderfully large libraries of movies and television shows. But they don't have everything. If your cinematic tastes tend toward the old or the esoteric, if a classical concert sounds like a great way to spend the night at home, or if you want live coverage of just about anything, here are services that could be right up your alley.

Plant a Tree, to honor Guru Ram Das!

By Guru Simran Kaur, Sr.

planting a tree

There is something which I believe you will enjoy hearing about. The Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan, was always very protective of the environment, but most especially about his trees. If anyone on his Ranch wanted to cut down a tree, they had to request an appointment with him personally and get his permission.

I was there once, when he refused permission. He said: "If you want to build a road, you make the road around the tree but that tree will not be cut down."

One time someone asked him, "Sir, how can we honor Guru Ram Das? We always meditate and pray to Guru Ram Das, but how can we actually honor him?" The Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan replied: "If you really want to honor Guru Ram Das, plant a tree."

Contact the LYF Foundation here in Espanola, to have a tree planted at Guru Ram Das Puri or at Yogiji's Ranch on your behalf. To do this, please contact Gobind Kaur at gobindk@lyffoundation.orgor phone her at (505)367-1377.

Food for Health -

Beet Salad with Walnuts and Goat Cheese
Inspired from Food Network Kitchens

2 bunches medium beets, (about 1 1/2 pounds) tops trimmed
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 T. fresh basil, chopped fine
1/2 cup walnuts
1 bunch arugula, trimmed and torn
1/2 medium head butter lettuce, torn
4 ounces goat cheese, crumbled

Put the beets in a saucepan with water to cover and season generously with salt. Bring to a boil over high heat and cook until fork tender, about 20 minutes. When the beets are cool enough to handle, peel them--the skins should slide right off with a bit of pressure from your fingers. If they don't, use a paring knife to scrape off any bits that stick. Cut each beet into bite-sized wedges.

Whisk the vinegar with salt and pepper, to taste, in a large bowl. Whisk in the olive oil in a slow steady stream to make a dressing. Add the chopped basil. Toss the cut beets in the dressing; set aside to marinate for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and oven-toast, stirring once, until golden brown, about 8 minutes. Cool. Toss the arugula and butter lettuce with the beets and divide among 4 plates. Scatter the walnuts and goat cheese on top. Serve.

Emotional Responsibility and Democracy in Action

In the arc of human existence, we have only recently begun to understand the subconscious and unconscious minds and how they work, primarily within the last century. Thank you, Doctors Freud and Jung. Experiencing, understanding, and mastering these facets of ourselves are important to the process of human evolution. I think of that old saying that, "The way out is through..."
