Yogi Bhajan - Compete and Compare; Upbeat and Aware

 by Hari Jiwan Singh

Competition around the Siri Singh Sahib was always on going. At least that's the way I saw it. I'm sure most didn't even know they were competing or what they were competing for, but I was out of their game so I could see it clearly. On one hand, the Master liked this competition. He called it aggressiveness. It showed a willingness to work on the part of the student. On the other, he didn't like it very much. He'd often say, "All you do is compete and compare. This leads to disappointment or arrogance. Be appreciative of one another." Well, which is it? Does he like competition or not?  Read entire article

Moving to Espanola is a great experience for me, sharing a new home with my papaji, Krishna Singh, and Sangeet Kaur, mataji. I was born here and raised in this sangat until the age of six. For the past few years I lived in Seattle, developing my cooking skills as a chef for a vegetarian restaurant, and working closely with our local Gurdwara langar program...

Mural Artist Edward O'Brien

By Peter Lopez

Peter Lopez is in the process of completing his book about  Ed O'Brien. Mr O'Brien was the artist who lived with us here in the ashram while he painted the beautiful mural at the back of our gurdwara.  Mr. Lopez has been working over the last several years to gleen as much information about Mr. O'Brien's life.  His book will contain detailed images of the ashram mural as well as little known facts about Mr. O'Brien. He is looking for sponsors to support the publishing of this book by Sunstone Press.   All contributions of $100 or more will be recognized in the book's acknowledgment section.  Please contact Mr. Lopez at 505-425-8214 if you would like to be a sponsor.

Evolutionary Astrology - Reframing Pisces and Aquarius

by Himat Kaur Khalsa

Poor Pisces has gotten such a bad reputation; it has been maligned as a sign because of some of the ways humanity has expressed Piscean energy in this Piscean Age (roughly the last two millenia).

I'd like to reframe our idea of Pisces. The fact is that each sign of the zodiac reflects a particular archetype, and there is a broad range of expressions within that archetypal field. Each sign has a God-like level of expression, and a low-vibration level of expression, and a whole smorgasbord of archetypal possibilities in between.  Read Entire Article

Fighting Malware & Winning

by Guruka Singh

My last column was in the July 2012 ashram newsletter. If you wondered what happened to the August column, well, I was on the other side of the world traveling and teaching in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. It was a wonderful 3 week trip teaching kids from 8 to 20 at a camp in Bangkok and teaching all ages in Gurdwaras, classes and camps in Singapore and Malaysia. I'm now happily back at my desk and eager to share more computing tips with you.

 Sweet Potato Fries (baked)

A simple, tasty way to prepare sweet potatoes is to peel them, slice into 'french fry' sized strips, spread them on a baking sheet, lightly spray with oil, and sprinkle with sea salt, black pepper, and cinnamon.  Bake at 425 for 15 minutes.
