The Amrit Ceremony on May 12 |
Congratulations new Khalsas!
by Guru Darbar Singh, presiding Granthi at the ceremony
The Amrit Ceremony, held on May 12 in the Ladies Camp Gurdwara, was very small, very sweet, and very powerful. We felt the presence of Guru Gobind Singh in the Dasam Darbar. (A 'Dasam Darbar' is a Gurdwara where sacred weapons and the Dasam Granth are stored.) Three people took Amrit: Gurvinderpal Singh's Mataji - Manjit Kaur, Siri Sadhana Singh of Espanola, and Guru Prakash Kaur of Albuquerque. |

The Joys of Beekeeping
By Mehtab Singh
One of the joys of springtime for me is seeing the first bees of the season with big orange balls of pollen clinging to their legs. Another joy I have found is sharing excitement about bees with so many in our community. This spring our community of beekeepers has more than doubled and with that, more joy!

News for the Ashram Children
by Guru Simran Kaur, Sr.
The Ashram Children's Program, which met every Wednesday afternoon throughout the school year, is now finished for the Summer, and will resume in September after the Labor Day weekend. I want to celebrate and congratulate all the children who attended. We had a great time, and I am very proud of all of you!
I want to invite all ashram children to attend these two Childrens Celebrations during the summer:
- July 23 - Guru Har Krishan's Birthday
- August 15 - the beginning of the 11 days leading up to the Siri Singh Sahib's birthday, and Guru Simran Kaur's birthday.
Please put these two dates on your calendar, and be sure to make time to come over to the Ranch and celebrate with me!
Have a great summer, and I hope to see you all in September, when the weekly Ashram Children's Program starts up again. |

Food for Health - Yummy Kitcheree
by Kirpal Singh Khalsa, Ph.D.
"Kitcharee" is a Punjabi word that means "mixture." In India it is commonly used to describe any number of things randomly thrown together, including people, ingredients or circumstances. But in our 3HO lifestyle "kitcharee" refers to a magical mixture of rice, beans, vegetables and spices based on Yogi Bhajan's simple recipe for mung beans and rice. So let's understand how and why the Yogi gave us this recipe and why he considered it the most complete food, easy to digest ('pre-digested' in his words) and one of the most therapeutic foods in the Ayurvedic system of healing.

On another note: Guru Simran Kaur was named the BBBS of Northern NM school-based Big Sister of the Year for her commitment to Espanola seventh-grader, Taishanna Sanchez. Visit sikhnet.com for the complete story. |

Add "Recent Places" to Your Windows Start Menu
by Guruka Singh
Windows 7 automatically puts "Recent Items" on your Start menu, but omits the equally useful "Recent Places." Fortunately, adding Recent Places, which lists recently used folders, drives, etc., is amazingly simple and takes just a few seconds to do - once you know how! I find Recent Places just as useful as Recent Items. I use it many times every day.

Yogi Bhajan, Celery in the Belly
by Hari Jiwan Singh
It was 6:00 pm on a balmy L.A. evening in October, 1978 when I received a call. "Hari Jiwan," the other voice said. There was no mistaking who it was. The Siri Singh Sahib continued, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, son, but you are to go on a celery fast for 90 days. Eat nothing but celery." "Raw or cooked sir," I responded. "Whatever you choose, that's not my affair. I want you to lose some weight and strengthen your nervous system. You'll need a strong nervous system when time is upon you."
