Leg Luncheon 2012
Legislative Luncheon
The Opening Day of the NM Legislature is a busy day for the NM Sikh Community who hosts a luncheon for public officials following the Governor's State of the State Address at the Legislature. This is the 18th year. The big news was Speaker Ben Lujan's opening address to the House that he would not be running for the office he has held since 1975 due to a health challenge that has plagued him since fall of 2009. Senator Udall, Congressman Heinrich, Attorney General King, Land Commissioner Powell, Cabinet Secretaries, members of the Judiciary, state officials and two other Senatorial candidates and friends attended.

Logo of Singing LionTurbaned Lion Logo

designed by Gurujot Singh

Maggie Macnab, a Santa Fe-based designer and educator, was recently featured in the Santa Fe Pasatiempo Magazine (January 13, 2012). Her design philosophy incorporates the use of the five basic shapes--the equidistant cross, the spiral, the triangle, the square, and the circle. Gurujot Singh of Sikhnet, a student of Macnab's, was also featured in the article. Macnab referres to a logo he created of a singing lion wearing a turban, which integrates the five shapes. She wrote, "It is an expression of who he is, not just a logo, and that's what this design approach is all about."

Congratulations, Gurujot Singh, for a job well done!

Guru Ram Das: The Throne of Raj Yog

If you have ever yearned for a full explanation of Raj Yoga, how Guru Ram Das occupied the "Throne," of Raj Yog, and its relationship with the Siri Singh Sahib and Kundalini Yoga, here's your chance! Our beloved Master, Yogi Bhajan, instructed Amandeep Singh to do scholarly research on our history and its foundations, and then teach it to us. Amazingly, the knowledge that he shares, powerfully connects long-time practitioners of Kundalini Yoga, to our very real roots in a most profound way.

Attendees report that, during Amandeep Singh's presentations on Raj Yog, they actually experience the very real, very pure and pristine presence of Guru Ram Das, Lord of Miracles, our precious guardian and guide. View Entire Article

Gurunam Singh performs at Sat Nam Fest 2011

Gurunam Singh plays Jai Te Gang at Sat Nam Fest 2011
Gurunam Singh channels Guru Gobind Singh's energy via this entrancing version of Jai Te Gang, sung before the gathering at Sat Nam Fest, 2011. 11 minutes into this 16 minute video clip, the chant changes to: "Dukh Par Har Sukh Ghar Le Jaee", which SSS translated to mean: "Give your pain to God, and take home peace." This takes the energy of the group to a very elevated place.  Beautiful shots of the sangat dancing, etc. Check it out!

Food for Health

This recipe is from El Farol's Restaurant Cookbook (El Farol is a long time Santa Fe favorite Restaurant on Canyon Road, well known for its unique and delicious 'tapas')

 roasted red potates
Oven-Roasted Garlic Potatoes
2 pounds of either Red or Yukon Gold Potatoes
3/4 cup olive oil
8 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tb. chopped parsley
1 Tb. red chili pepper flakes
salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Scrub potatoes. Toss potatoes with all remaining ingredient in a bowl to coat. Evenly place potatoes on a sheet pan and cover with foil; roast for 30 minutes.  Uncover and let bake for another 15 minutes.  Serve with Harissa or Romesco sauce.

Romesco Sauce (Almond, garlic, red pepper sauce)
1 cup almonds, toasted
10 cloves garlic
1 cup olive oil
2 Tablespoons sherry vinegar
2 to 3 piquin chilies  (click this link to learn more about piquin chilies)
2 cups charred, peeled and chopped roasted red peppers
salt to taste

Char the red bell peppers over an open flame, on a grill, or in an oven broiler until peppers are blackened on all sides.  Remove most of the skin and seeds from the peppers. In a blender or food processor, puree the almonds, garlic, oil, vinegar and chilies until smooth. Add the red bell peppers. Replace the top and pulse until the sauce is just a bit chunky.  Salt to taste. Keeps in the Refrig for 4-5 days.

Why I'm Happy That the Forecast is Very Cloudy

By Guruka Singh

There's a very big change afoot in the world of personal computing. It's well underway in the business world, and it's coming to you very quickly. It's called Cloud Computing.

Okay, so what's Cloud Computing and how does it affect me?

Most of us think about our computer as the place we keep all our stuff; documents, photos, music, contact names and addresses, videos, and more. Heck, Windows XP used the folder names "My Documents," My Pictures," etc. We organize our data on our hard drives and backup our data to more hard drives. But Cloud Computing uses a different model. What if your programs and your data, even the operating system itself, didn't reside on your computer, but on multiple Internet servers? That would mean it hardly mattered how new or powerful your computer is, what version of Windows you are running or how much hard drive (storage) space you have.

Yogi Bhajan, Hence, Tolerance
by Hari Jiwan Singh

What made America great? Well, one great reason is because a bunch of different thinking people came together near the end of the 18th century and made an agreement, an agreement "of the people, by the people, and for the people." This took great flexibility and tolerance. This agreement wasn't to end a war, but to build a nation. It worked. We were on our way to becoming a great nation. Then, the Civil War created a great division. It was such a great division that it needed to be settled by war. Abraham Lincoln did the impossible. He held this country together at the cost of his life. This took great tolerance as well.
This nation became great because it demonstrated the great virtues of tolerance, twice. This country stuck together and worked it out. This flexibility was the American advantage. It taught Americans to tolerate one another. America has the ideals of a truly "Great Society."

If God has guided you here and has given you the virtue to do service here, and has given you that chance, then don't waste it. It's a place to gain and to be what is yours to be. Therefore, I say to you that take the very earth of this place and put it on your forehead. It will rewrite your destiny."
~Yogi Bhajan
