Unsung Heroes:
Anand Singh, Tarn Taran Kaur, Gobind Kaur, Matamandir Singh and Sat Kartar Singh
A big thank you goes out to these fearless community members who gracefully handled the evacuation of Women's Camp and Children's Camp from the Las Conchas fire threat at Ram Das Puri. They were successful in working as a team to organize everyone in making the transition from their campsites at Ram Das Puri to the ashram and Ranch.
Airhorns were used to notify the campers to gather under the Tantric shelters and proceed down the hill. Tents were disassembled, duffle bags packed and all piled into cars to make the trip down. The Children's Camp set up their program on the ashram property and the Women's Camp stayed in various places on the Ranch property and conducted classes on the ashram property. Overall participants felt very well taken care of by the mother ashram. Both Sat Kartar Singh and Matamandir Singh went out of their way to make sure everyone was feed.
We appreciate you rising to serve at a time of great need with so much selflessness. You are greatly appreciated and blessed for all you did. Thank you! |

New Ashram Member
Deva Kaur I was born in Claremont, California. In early childhood, my bohemian style family backpacked through Europe for a few years...after that we settled in Alaska where I spent my formidable years.
I have the same gypsy spirit of my parents and travelled for much of my adult life as a flight attendant for an international airline. I've spent the last few years in Florida studying and practicing the healing arts.
I've wished to live in the mother ashram for countless years. I watched gurdwaras via Sikhnet regularly and longed to be here in person. It's such a privilege to have finally been granted the blessing. So many things about ashram living are really wonderful. I'd have to say that Sadhana and morning gurdwara top the list.
My husband, Sat Sangh Singh, and I were also feeling that it was high time to get out of the city and work toward living as self sustainably as possible. Another big draw was the Santa Fe International folk dancers which I have admired for years and am now dancing with. I am also working as a massage therapist at the Black Mesa Massage and Yoga Center here in Espanola. |

Computer Corner
A Pale Moon Rises - Need For Speed 5
By Guruka Singh
Even though version 5 of Firefox is faster than older versions of Firefox, they are still not as fast as Google Chrome.
In my eternal quest for more speed/features/optimization in the computer tool we use the most (our web browser, of course) I've been testing Google Chrome right alongside Firefox 5 for all my Web browsing and SikhNet Web content creation.
My verdict after two weeks of intensive use: Chrome is faster than any version of Firefox, BUT it doesn't handle advanced HTML as well as FF does, and some really crucial (for me) add-ons are still not available for Chrome.
Then I discovered something really cool! I know, I know.... "Oh God! Another browser????" But wait! Read on before you brush past this one...

Yogi Bhajan, Go on a Bender, or Surrender
By Hari Jiwan Singh
Here's a fact: We all judge perpetually whether we realize it or not. But, it's not actually judgment, its analysis. Here's the difference: analysis is not charged, it's devoid of emotion or agendas. And, here's the good news: its part of the process of growing spiritually as we self-analyze with the teachings as our anchor. In this way, analysis becomes surrender to the teachings. We in the West are specifically well trained in this deductive reasoning process, but if analysis turns to judgment, it may not work for you. The goal of a real life is to surrender to the truth, nothing else, nothing but! On this we can all agree, it's just the "getting there" which gets in the way of "getting there."
Being personally involved in the life of the Master provided a different experience than most. Again, it's only an opportunity, not a guarantee. But, the opportunity does provide a sometimes different experience of who he was. The challenge and blessing was ongoing.
Occasionally, the Master would say things to me that appeared to be just "off the wall" as far as working in this world... in my world. I would say to myself, "He just doesn't understand America, YET!" But, under my excuse for not following his way of thinking, there was always a clear voice telling me I should.

If God has guided you here and has given you the virtue to do service here, and has given you that chance, then don't waste it. It's a place to gain and to be what is yours to be. Therefore, I say to you that take the very earth of this place and put it on your forehead. It will rewrite your destiny."
