Polarity Body Work

By Dhanwant Kaur

Polarity is a gentle Healing Art that works with your physical body through polarity energy currents to create proper flow. It provides opportunity to realign with the true self. It offers a gentle approach to your structural problems by relieving stagnation.  It works for your physical as well as emotional bodies. Aids digestion, relieves grief, re-aligns your spine through spinal harmonics, balances your nervous system, both sympathetic and parasympathetic, relieves stress, helps with depression, and balances all elements in your body.

The results of Polarity Therapy sessions vary, and may include profound relaxation, an understanding of energetic patterns and their implications, and relief from numerous specific problematic situations such as hypertension, anxiety attacks and breathing disorders.

Polarity Body Work does not require disrobing, and involve soft touch, some rocking as well as point specific touch.

As of July 1st, I am offering 30 minute sampler sessions for suggested donation of $11.  To make an appointment please call Dhanwant Kaur at 505-400-3636.

A Traditional Japanese Ramen House Serving Lunch & Dinner in Downtown Santa Fe.

After reading the positive reviews about this new Japanese restaurant we decided to give it a try. This is a very small restaurant with mostly bar/counter seating however it had a nice decor and ambiance. The menu is small with only 9 items listed and just a few are vegetarian.  We had the Hijiki which is a black seaweed with mung bean sprouts and shitake mushrooms and was delicious.  We also ordered the Vegetable Ramen and shared a bowl since the bowls were quite large. It was pretty bland for my palate but remedied by adding the condiments they provided on the counter. For dessert they offered us cut fruit with a lemon custard scooped on the top.  It was a delicious end to a light meal and the lemon custard was perfectly both tart and sweet.

If you find a new restaurant you would like to recommend, please send your review to the Editor to be printed in this newsletter.

Summer Solstice 2011 presents new teaching track: Yogi Bhajan Living Legacy
By Kirpal Singh Khalsa, Ph.D.

Early Yogi Bhajan
Yogi Bhajan in the early days

Summer Solstice 2011 presents a new teaching track: Yogi Bhajan Living Legacy. The program will include Yogi Bhajan video lectures, special meditations, Tratakum workshops, and stories of Yogi Bhajan, all in the cozy atmosphere of the Yogi Bhajan Living Legacy Center, formerly called the Yogi Bhajan Memorial Pavilion. It will be open continually during Solstice and hosted by Legacy Teachers who studied personally with the master.

Legacy Teachers are all of those early students of Yogi Bhajan who sat at his feet, who were personally chiseled by him, and who deliver his teachings today. Until recently, this crusty group of greying middle-agers and senior citizens was affectionately referred to as "the old-timers." Maybe they're not so old. Didn't the master tell us that age is measured by flexibility of the spine? Many of the so-called old timers have very flexible spines. These early pioneers of our Dharma were sent by Yogi Bhajan to teach Kundalini Yoga all over the world. They opened ashrams, led spiritual communities, and inspired people through their lifestyle and their devotion to Yogiji's teachings. They stood the test of time and the test of the fire of the master's personal touch.

Legacy Teachers are now sharing their stories. Each of them in some unique way was touched by the master and transformed, uplifted, and healed. These experiences and stories are part of Yogi Bhajan's legacy. Through them we get little glimpses into the amazing and beautiful teacher who gave his all to his students so that they could become the teachers of future generations. The stories are inspiring, funny, insightful, and always show the way to God.

Come experience the master's presence, energy, and spirit at the Yogi Bhajan Living Legacy Center. His energy and consciousness permeates the Summer Solstice experience and our entire 3HO lifestyle. He is here, with us today, perhaps even more powerfully now than years ago. For more information: drkirpalsingh@yahoo.com.

The Espanola Spring Cleanup was a great success and if you haven't noticed we did a lot to clean up the area around the old Sombrillo Elementary School and Highway 106. A big thank you to all who participated including the SEVA COV and two girls from the Adi Shakti Girls Club.  A valiant effort was made by many of the women who spent hours raking and piling the weeds in enormous piles to be hauled away by the Espanola Public School grounds crew.  Also the guys pruned and chopped many of the stray Chinese elms that had cropped up around the parameters of the school.  Many garbage bags were filled with trash found on the street and highway as well.

We will be participating in another cleanup with the City of Espanola in October of this year, so please consider joining us then. Our participation was well appreciated and helps us to build friendships with our Espanola neighbors and community members.

Santa Fe Walkabout: Convening the Cosmic Caravan of Crones

Doris Davis is walking across America. The walk is a team effort, four walkers, including Doris' daughter, Viveka Davis, will walk the entire 3000 miles from Oceanside, California to Washington, D.C. Doris is committed to 1500 of those miles at over 11 miles per day. They are accompanied by two modest RVs and the team who alternate walking days with support chores.

Doris visited us at the ashram and gave a very heartfelt and uplifting talk during our Sunday Gurdwara.  She reminded some of us of Shakti Parwha, her words were those of a wise woman.  We really enjoyed her presence and wish her well on her journey.  You can read an entry from her blog below:

"On Mother's Day (May 8) and for a few days thereafter we spent time with Sikh friends at their ashram in Espanola 30 miles North of town. We got up with them at 3:45 a.m. several times for morning prayers, yoga practice, songs and chants. Actually, the turban I have learned to tie on suits me, and I may keep it!"

Hari KaurThis Month's UnSung Hero

Hari Kaur

I had no idea until last week that there was a kitchen angel who makes langar every Sunday morning for the sevadars who perform Ishnaan Seva.  That angel is Hari Kaur married to Santokh Singh.  Many of us have eaten her marvelous cooking and know its a real treat.

She has been known to fill in whenever necessary, such as after evening meditations or Gurupurabs, to cook meals for the sangat and she puts her whole heart and soul into it.

Thank you, Hari Kaur, for bringing us a taste of your delicious and heartfelt cooking!

I moved to New Mexico from Miami, Florida. It was a hard choice because Miami is so colorful and the energy there is very uplifting- it being so close to the equator. The Caribbean winds blow a lovely feeling of love energy into the city. The sunsets in Miami are like they are here, romantic and gorgeous.

While in Miami I worked with a civil rights group that fought against discrimination and brought information to the voters of Miami. I also worked as a teacher in a local preschool and kindergarten and part-time in a bookstore I spent time learning Thai Massage and Ayurvedic cooking.  Just recently I took a course at UNM that focused on local New Mexican authors taught by Sean Murphy. It was a great class! Sean also teaches writing workshops, for all those blossoming writers out there.

My Kundalini Yoga teacher,
Ganesha at the Miami Yogashala, was fantastic!  He is such a saint with so much love and compassion. Ganesha recommended Summer Solstice and Ladies Camp. I attended Solstice and Ladies Camp the last year it was right down the road from the Gurdwara. Needless to say, I fell in love with Guru Nanak and Guru Ram Das.

Thank you for welcoming me to Espanola! Your community is so great!

gardenOur Field of Dreams

By Ravi Har Kaur

Greetings Everyone.  We've been a bit remiss in not keeping you up to date with what's happening in the HGRD Ashram Community Garden.  We've been a bit too busy getting our hands dirty, but we want to let you know what's going on and coming up - from the soil, that is.  Apologies for the length of this - feel free to skip to the end.

Greenhouse beetsQuick history lesson - Our first two years as a group, we planted our garden in the much smaller and more protected "beet house" down by Gurujiwan's greenhouses. Last winter we made the decision to plant our crops in the field this season.  As you may remember, we have been planting cover crops in the field the last couple years with the intention of eventually planting our vegetable crops there.  But it was a bit daunting to realize that not only is the field three times the size of the beet house, but we would be leaving a garden that we knew had great soil and moving to an open field where the health of the soil is still an unknown, even though we've been doing our best to improve it. And on a purely physical comfort level, we are leaving behind the wonderful shade cloth that covered the beet house.  So this move to the field is both scary and exciting - kind of like leaving home for the first time to go off to college!  We know it will be fun and amazing and we'll learn so much, but we also know there will be challenges. read entire article

Come to our "Planting Aplenty Party" this Saturday, June 4th and Monday June 6th! On Saturday, we'll be in the field by 8:00am and are usually done by 10:30 or 11:00, and on Monday, we'll be there at 6:00pm and will work until 8:00pm or so. Not only would we really love your help, we need many hands for this.

Backup your Computer! No really...It's easy!
By Guruka Singh

Backups are like a safety net. You never intend to fall, but when you do, boy are you glad there's a net below you. (And I speak from experience!) Every copy of Windows 7 includes a complete suite of backup tools. The suite contains everything you need to back up (and restore) your entire system. You do not need any other software.

What's more, after you've set up your initial backup, future backups happen automatically.

In fact, Windows 7 makes it so easy to set up fully automated backups that it's almost nutty not to do it.

But (you knew there had to be one) although Windows 7's backup tools work really well, they are based on a different philosophy than previous versions of Windows and so do not operate exactly as you might expect. Until you understand what Microsoft is trying to do, the differences can be confusing.

Win7's backup system has three major parts

The first part is designed to protect your user data - and nothing else. User data includes each user's locally stored library files plus the contents of the user folders and subfolders, such as AppData, Contacts, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Links, Music, Pictures, Saved Games, Searches, and Videos.

Yogi Bhajan, Betrayal for Sale

By Hari Jiwan Singh

We were sitting in an attorney's office in Century City. This was quite an unusual occurrence. The Master had been betrayed once again. Only this time the betrayal had gone beyond normal and called for defensive attention and action. It happens.

A person very close to the Master was threatening to sue him, believing he/she was not given what they felt they deserved. That's the thing about serving a master; it's not about demanding what you think you deserve, it's about accepting what is given in gratitude and selflessness. It's the recognition that spirituality is not a matter of profit and loss - it's a matter of service in humility.

I directed us to this particular lawyer after checking to know who had the best credentials. I didn't want to take him anywhere less acclaimed. He had two ways of working with people: if you were his student, he would work with you forever no matter the caliber of the student or how quick he or she "got it;" If you were not his student, he wanted the best in the particular field of current interest (which was the case here). I knew this about him and always tried to accommodate him a little better than I thought I could. Remember, this was back in the mid 1980's. read entire article

If God has guided you here and has given you the virtue to do service here, and has given you that chance, then don't waste it. It's a place to gain and to be what is yours to be. Therefore, I say to you that take the very earth of this place and put it on your forehead. It will rewrite your destiny."
~Yogi Bhajan
