Community Growth Fund By Mataji GuruMeher Kaur
Hacienda
de Guru Ram Das is our community and our home. Whether we have lived
here for years or months, we have been blessed to give to support the
growth and maintenance of our Mother Ashram. Offerings have been given
in good faith for the benefit our community.
Unfortunately, since December
2009,
contributions to SDNM Community Growth Funds have greatly diminished,
but funds are still needed to run our community and pay our bills. So
out of this need, and the need for a new platform of Trust, the
revitalized ashram finance committee was formed.
Our focus for the past seven months has been to create a new
independent entity, Hacienda de Guru Ram Das Corporation, that will
provide community members a safe and sacred way to continue to donate
funds.
HGRD
Corporation arose out of the will of the Sadh Sangat and is just the
beginning for us as a community to shoulder our own responsibility and
power. We are encouraged and inspired by the feedback we have received
from community members, and we humbly thank you for your support.
Hacienda de Guru Ram Das Corperation has been formed and is now ready
to accept community donations.
We are requesting everyone to renew your commitment to give to the
Mother Ashram. Donations can be made by: - EFT - please contact
newly appointed bookkeeper, Rama Kaur Khalsa, hgrdcorp@gmail.com or 747-6742, for
information
- Direct payments to HGRD Corporation, mailed to P.O. Box 2053, Santa Cruz, NM 87567
- Dropping payments off at the HGRD Corp
box in the Ashram mailroom
- Giving payments directly
to
bookkeeper, Rama Kaur Khalsa
NOTE: We are in the process of setting up a PayPal account to receive credit card donations.
The
baseline 2010 budget for our ashram expenses is $10,620 per month, so
our goal is to generate monthly donations of $11,000. We can easily
meet this goal if everyone participates. All contributions, big or
small, are appreciated and will help to fund our Mother Ashram and
spread its grace.
In Love of God and Guru,

Computer Corner Files in the Sky By Guruka Singh
You all know how much I
stress making regular backups. I hope by now you are even quoting me:
"It's not a question of if you will need your backups, but only a
question of when you will need them."
With the price of external hard drives in free fall (based on
cost-per-megabyte), storing data online instead of locally could seem
inconvenient at best and a threat to your data security at worst. But
online-storage sites, both paid and free, offer two advantages over
attached external hard drives: safe and secure offsite backups and
anytime-anywhere file sharing. Images and documents stored online are
accessible 24/7 (to anyone with the right password) anywhere there's an
Internet connection. Online storage is, in fact, more secure than
the external hard drives sitting next to your PC. Ever knocked a
running external hard drive over? Yikes... instantly unreadable. And
unless you carefully lock these drives away, anyone could simply walk
off with all your files. Online storage sites typically use
industry-standard backup systems for their storage and employ multiple
levels of security including password protection, data encryption on
their servers, and SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption between your PC
and the cloud. read entire article > |

Notes from the Editor Peace Prayer Day has always been one of the highlights of my summer. Unfortunately we didn't make it up to the site last year because of a fierce rain storm which left the roads a muddy mess. This June, the weather was perfect, the performances superb and the spirits high.
The celebration started off with a Hip Hop routine by Set & Ra Conscious, led by Mandeep Sethi, and enthusiastically enjoyed by the younger crowd. I could see the "older generation" wasn't as moved, but I think that's the way it's supposed to be. (Parents aren't supposed to love their teenagers music.)
Sat Santokh Singh, from the Bay area, was the MC for the event and introduced the next presenter, our beloved Bibiji. She gave a universal message that was very heart-felt and uplifting.
Then the long anticipated bhangra dance by Izzat da Punjab brought the audience to their feet. The surprise element was the young, talented grand-daughter of Siri Gian Kaur, Surya Kaur. She had everyone cheering during her energetic and spirited performance. And what followed was the longest and most spectacular bhangra choreography I've ever seen Ravi Kaur put together. Congratulations to all the dancers who worked so hard with her and Alessandra to make it a breath-taking performance. To see a video of the live performance, click here >
I have to confess that it is usually at this point during the event, that I take a break and walk down to the Bazaar to smooze with friends and eat some watermelon. However the Tibetan couple who took the stage next, caught my attention to wait a little longer. Mystical mantra singer, Yuan
Miao and Tibetan yogi, Lama Norbu captured the attention of the whole audience with a wonderful chant with arm motions, much like Celestial Communications.
So after a break, I returned to the shelter just in time to get a glimpse of the runners coming on stage and Guru Singh leading everyone in some final songs of love and peace. Again, we succeeded in making this a special day where peace was danced, sang and chanted for by a small gathering in the hills of New Mexico. But this was no small feat. I think every time we do this, our prayers vibrate strongly somewhere in the ethers to be felt by people around the world. This is what draws me back every year so I can be a part of this dynamic event.

Bolivia and the 7th Lord of Miracles Tour
December 15, 2009
By
Ram Das Singh
La Paz is the highest capital in the world located at 15000 feet above
sea level. It is a beautiful mix of 90% indigenous and 10% European. For
6 years we have been traveling to Bolivia and even though the sangat is
small, their impact is great. During our 2 day stay in Bolivia we
taught yoga, danced bhangara and enjoyed great Bolivian food. We were
especially delighted that Hari Jot Singh from Paraguay traveled with us.

Perhaps the greatest gift this tour gave us in Bolivia was a
meeting with the Governor of all the prisons where we presented offering
Kundalini Yoga to the prisons for the prisoners and prison guards. The
Governor immediately accepted our proposal and the classes started in
November. During the meeting, S.S. Gurubachan Singh noticed that the
National Bolivian Police are in charge of the prisons and proceeded to
mention to the Governor that for the past 5 years we have been teaching
yoga and meditation to the National Police of Colombia. Immediately the
Governor called the Commandant General who is in charge of all 13,000
police in Bolivia to meet with us about this program. |
