 Fall Events
Many courses later and a fantastic Festival of Destiny party enjoyed by all, we now look forward to a little slower pace for the fall. Guru Ram Das' Prakash Ustav (birthday) will be celebrated this month with 11 days of cozy meditations each evening in sangat households starting on September 29th. The ashram is also pleased to host the Khalsa Council meetings beginning with a Gurdwara on September 23rd and the sessions continuing through until the 26th.

 Reflections on the Narayan Shabd

Since March 2009 our Sangat has been daily reciting the
Narayan Shabd as a prayer for healing of our community and Sikh Dharma
International (SDI) in the face of, to say the least, serious organizational
challenges. As many of us recall, Siri Singh Sahib first requested us to recite
this Shabd after the June 6, 1984 martyrdom of the Akal Takht in Operation
Bluestar. (For those of you who haven't
been to Amritsar, the Akal Takht is within the
walls of the Sri Harimandir Sahib [Golden
Temple] complex. When
facing the causeway that crosses the sarovar to Harimander Sahib, the Akal
Takht is directly behind you.)
One day during the Narayan meditation, I had such an image of
Akal Takht! I meditated on it and felt myself back in Akal Takht. And then I intuitively
"got it" - why Siri Singh Sahib Ji gave us the technology of this Shabd. And I thought it
might be helpful to share it with Sangat as food for thought. read complete article >

Espanola Sangat
(& Friends) Fields Team for Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

The Espanola Sundawgs arrived at the tournament in good spirits, ready
to embody "the spirit of the game."
On Day One, teams from Santa Fe, Los
Alamos, Albuquerque, Las
Cruces, and Durango
were randomly grouped in order to play, assess each other's strengths, and to
create a reliable order for play on Day Two.
The Sundawgs started strong, with cheers resounding from the Sangat
members Avtar Singh, Satya Kaur & Balwant Singh, Sat Guru Singh, Sarb
Sarang Singh, and Tejinder Kaur, who came to show their support. Even though
there were enough players to field two teams (with subs), everyone had a chance
to play. Albuquerque's
Team "Mellow Yellow" did not fare so well. With limited numbers for
substitutions, they lost to Espanola's "army" 7 to 15.
Next up for the Sundawgs was another small team. But the Durango "Sledgehammer"
was well-conditioned and very experienced. This was a team that knew how to
have fun, which led to a competitive advantage. They danced during timeouts and
had a stereo playing Classic Rock on the sideline at all times. read complete article >

 Fall Clothes Swap - October 10th
The fall Clothes Swap is scheduled for October 10th
from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Langar Hall. Jai Jeet Sangeet Kaur is now collecting
ladies clothing, especially bana. As you clean out
your closet in preparation for the winter months, please set aside anything you
are no longer "attached" to for distribution. Someone else may "fall in love at
first sight"! Donations of clean women's clothing (bana and other) and accessories,
paperback books are acceptable. Please, no men's bana, children's clothing, or excessively torn, stained or
oil-permeated items. This bi-annual swap
day is for sharing and no charges are involved. This is seva on the part of Jai
Jeet Sangeet Kaur and lots of fun for everyone! For questions or to

Thursday Children's Program
The children's program is returning and will be held in the Langar Hall at 4:00 pm every Thursday. The program includes stories,
music, games, arts and crafts for the children followed by a simple meal
prepared in turn by the parents. Guru Simran Kaur from the Ranch coordinates
the program and can be reached at 753-5809.
