Friends around the World
Summer Solstice greetings from Denman Island,
BC. We thought we would share a photo of the participants of a 6-day
Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Retreat that we taught in early June, here
on Denman Island. It was wonderful to share our beautiful Dharmic lifestyle
with these bright and earnest folks who came from throughout Vancouver
Island. Starting with Morning Sadhana, a full day of Kundalini Yoga and
Meditation and then finishing the evening with a collective chanting of
Kirtan Kriya; this group inspired us with their energy, heart-felt questions
and keep-up spirit. It was an honor to share the teachings of Siri
Singh Sahib ji and stories of our Sikh Gurus with this group. We
told stories about our beloved 3H0 family in Espanola and have encouraged
them to attend Summer Solstice next year. We love you, we miss you! All our love
and prayers are with you.

Computer Corner
TV for Nothin' and Record it for Free by Guruka SinghAfter I wrote last month's column on Windows 7, Microsoft announced the official release date as October 22nd. You can buy it in advance for less than ½ price. I paid $49 each for three licenses from Amazon.com. It comes in four flavors: "Basic" (don't bother!) "Home Premium" (this is the one to get if you do not need to join a domain) "Professional" (if you use your computer on a network like the Sikh Dharma network, i.e. in the office then you will need this version.) And "Ultimate" which you probably will not need since all it gives you over the other versions is "BitLocker" encryption to encrypt your files (there are other programs that can do this for a lot less money) along with your choice of the Windows interface in any of 32 languages. The "Home Premium" version will sell for $149 when it hits the street in October, so purchasing it now in advance of the release date gets you a really worthwhile discount. Read more > |
Interview with a 4th Grader
An interview with Guru Sundesh Singh (son of Guruchander Singh and Kirn Kaur) from the Miri Piri Academy Newsletter
Guru Sundesh Singh Khalsa came to Miri Piri Academy when he was six years old, and he has been here for four years.
The most important part of MPA for Guru Sundesh is the family
atmosphere. "The thing I like most about being here is my friends. I
have a lot more friends here then I do in America. I've really grown
into the group here. This feels more like home in many ways than
America."
"Most of my friends that I have are really close, even though they are
older than me. The only thing that's hard is when they graduate and
leave."
Guru Sundesh also likes the cultural aspects of being at MPA. "I like
the culture here. Back home if people see me they ask me about my
turban and my lifestyle, but here I feel like everyone else. Just
normal."
Another thing that he likes about going to MPA and living in Amritsar
is that he gets to visit the Golden Temple often. There are two weekly
trips to the Golden Temple: one on Wednesday evening, the other on
Saturday morning before daybreak. "I enjoy going there a lot. Not many
people get to go there in their lifetime. It's a great opportunity to
go as often as we do."
He feels he's benefited, too, from the physical training and yoga at
MPA. "I like most of the things that we're taught here, like yoga,
physical training and gatka. It makes me stronger in a lot of different
ways."
"I think if someone comes here they should be prepared," he says. "You
definitely have to change your lifestyle a lot. It really makes you
grow. Be prepared for a big adventure."

Siri Singh Sahib Lecture
Meditation Leads to Prosperity
KWTC - 08/26/1988
Let me teach you about meditation. When you meditate, the entire garbage of the subconscious starts floating. Meditation is not pleasant. Meditation cannot be pleasant, otherwise it is not meditation. You are doing something else. Meditation is just cleaning the house. Now, you have a Hoover going on, and you say there was no noise? There is no dust? How is that possible? Whenever you are going to clean the house, you are going to see the whole thing upside down, and when you are going to release the subconscious, you are going to find not only dirt of this life, but of lives and lives and lives and lives and lives.
Meditation is a must process. It is an act of selfishness which a person must do. What will it give you? Unpleasant labor. It's a labor of sweat. Now, what happens in meditation? When you meditate with the Guru mantra, it must have respect... it must have reverence. There are two things which must be there. When you sit and meditate, your mind goes berserk. It is a wrestling match. Give your life a chance. One tenth of the time belongs to the Guru. I'm not asking you anything. I am not judging you, I am not telling you anything. But one thing which I have learned, and I am telling you, Guru as my guarantee: there is nothing good in living except those personal hours of meditation. Something has told me it can work. Those of you who devote one tenth of your time to the Guru with love and devotion, have received his blessing. Greetings to you. But those of you who are still half way, they should make today a decision. Let us do it for 40 days. If it doesn't suit you, then leave it. That's how I started. Purpose of meditation is prosperity here and hereafter!
