DATE: Friday, March 30, 2012 TIME: 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. PLACE: ATRC 414 Kuwili St., Rm. 104 SPEAKER: Dr. Edward H.J. Elms, M.D. School of Biomedical Informatics University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
Dr. Elms will be sharing the role technological advances play in lowering rates of unemployment, supporting independent living among people with disabilities and diminishes the need for personal assistance for people with disabilities.
This project is aimed at making assistive technology available in the home, workplace, and elsewhere in the community. Initiated by the Texas Legislature, the Texas Disability Technology Initiative strives to improve employment and independent living opportunities for Texans with disabilities through translational research and applied technology.
Through this initiative, assistive technology will be readily available to people with disabilities and thereby improve their quality of life and their level of functioning in the community.
