CAMP COOL 2012

CAMP COOL 2012

Starting the New Year off right, ATRC began the year with its first Camp Cool Event. On January 21st and 28th, ATRC saw its Iwilei building filled with eager and excited campers. It was ATRC's largest Camp Cool turn out bringing in 21 campers ranging from 7-15 years of age. All areas of Oahu were represented, as well as a handful from the island of Kauai, thanks to a generous private donor and the efforts of Suzie Woolway, speech pathologist, of Ohana Sports Medicine.

Campers stepped into a circus themed event as balloons, streamers, elephants and lions were there to greet them at the door. Staff and volunteers were dressed in festive costumes with suspenders, bow-ties, oversized cowboy hats and clown glasses.

CAMP COOL - DAY 1

After registration campers were brought into the AT Zone where Craig Crisler of "It's All About Kids Hawaii" got the camp rolling with an ice breaker on the Promethean Board, an interactive whiteboard. Then campers participated in numerous activities from photography scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and Picasa Photo Editing. After lunch, campers were introduced to the iPad where they participated in many interactive activities incorporating the Promethean Board. Day one came to a close as campers huddled together with popcord as they watched the featured film "The Water Horse."

CAMP COOL - DAY 2

The day could could not come soon enough as eager campers showed up early Saturday morning. The morning started off with Ring Leader, President and CEO Barbara Fischlowitz-Leong, rallying the campers into the computer room where group photos were taken with campers, trainers and staff. Lead by Vice President, Jodi Asato, campers created video animation of their photo with the computer application "Crazy Talk." After a pizza lunch, the campers regrouped in the Hawaii Kai room for the Camp Cool Carnival, played games and collected their Camp Cool dollars to redeem at the Camp Cool Store.

Parents, volunteer and staff were invited to attend the closing awards ceremony where each camper was recognized with a Camp Cool Popcorn Award, Certificate and a collection of their work created from the camp.

ATRC would like to send out big mahalo to Craig Crisler of "It's All About Kids Hawaii" and all the dedicated volunteers and parents who also made Camp Cool 2012 an event to remember!
