HSPI to host Policy & Research Forum
Rewriting the Narrative: An Integrated Strategy for Counterradicalization
Please join us on Thursday, June 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for an
in-depth discussion on counterradicalization with Dr. Matthew Levitt. Dr. Levitt will
discuss the major findings and recommendations of The Washington Institute for
Near East Policy's Presidential Task Force report, "Rewriting the Narrative: An Integrated Strategy for Counterradicalization." The report analyzes a
spectrum of discrete policy issues -- democracy promotion, political reform,
public diplomacy, strategic communications, and counterradicalization --
offering an integrated approach to stanching the spread of Islamist extremism.
From creating a counterradicalization forum that draws on "best
practices" of friends and partners in Europe and the Middle East, to
infusing with renewed mission, urgency, and creativity U.S. international
broadcasting toward Arab and Muslim societies, the report addresses a range of
policy instruments. For details, visit our event page. For reports, testimonies, news articles, and experts on radicalization, please visit our radicalization resource page.
Please RSVP by close of business on Wednesday, June 3. |
HSPI Hosts Policy & Research Forum
Presidential Study Directive-1: Organizing for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism
On May 27, 2009, the George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) held a forum featuring John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, and Randy Beardsworth and Dr. Michele Malvesti,
the co-chairs of Presidential Study Directive-1 (PSD-1): Organizing for
Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. Their
remarks expanded upon President Obama's statement on the outcome of the review,
which called for a new White House organization for homeland security and
counterterrorism. Issued by President Obama on February 23, 2009, PSD-1 directs
the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism to
"lead an interagency review of ways to reform the White House organization for
counter-terrorism and homeland security in order to strengthen the government's
ability to craft and implement sound policies designed to keep our country
secure and our citizens safe." (more)
The
Homeland Security Policy Institute's Policy and Research Forum series is
designed to spotlight cutting-edge policy solutions and innovative
strategies to some of the most pressing national and international
concerns. The forum features leading officials, practitioners and
thinkers in a systematic way designed to better highlight their work
and promote a dialogue on effective solutions to current issues. |
