Local youth organizations sought to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at City Council meetings

The City is seeking local youth organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Daisy and Brownie troops that are interested in the opportunity to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of City Council meetings.

Since the beginning of the year, different youth organizations have been starting each City Council meeting by leading the Council and members of the public in the Pledge of Allegiance. The young boys and girls are introduced by Mayor Phil Tsunoda, receive City pins and a group photo is taken that is posted on the City's Web site.

The youth involvement is part of the City's 2010 celebration of the Year of the Youth, the brainchild of Mayor Tsunoda.

"Involving our kids in civic activities benefits them and our City alike," Mayor Tsunoda said. "Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance gives these youngsters exposure to City government and reinforces the importance of civic pride and involvement in our community."

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, which is located at 12 Journey.  Organizations interested in leading the Pledge should contact Kelly Tokarski, the City's Public Information Consultant, at 949-395-4448 or ktokarski@cityofalisoviejo.com.
