Stand up and be counted

Mayor Phil Tsunoda's Top 10 List for 2010 encourages the City of Aliso Viejo and its residents to be active participants in the U.S. Census process to ensure the community is counted. The Census, which is mandated by the U.S. Constitution, is a nationwide count every 10 years. Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, make decisions about what community services to provide and to distribute $400 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year. The Census Bureau has changed the way it conducts the national count by having one of the shortest census questionnaires in US history. The census form will take only about 10 minutes to complete, and answers are protected by law and strictly confidential. Forms will be mailed to households in March. By completing the census form, residents will help their community thrive. For more information, see the Census presentation from Wednesday's City Council meeting by clicking here.
