Planning Commission on hold during sluggish economy
|
The City Council on Wednesday decided to place the Planning Commission on hold for 6 to 12 months, as part of an effort to save the City money during the sluggish economy, which has impacted development activity in town.
Putting the commission on hold for six months would save the City approximately $23,250 and would allow for the development of an educational program for commissioners and for the City to evaluate the economy's impact on Aliso Viejo's development as a whole. During this time, activities normally handled by the Planning Commission will be acted on by the City Council.
The Planning Commission conducted 17 public hearings from July 2008 through June of this year. Five meetings were canceled due to a lack of discussion items.
The Council directed staff to report back in six months with an update on building activity and anticipated development in the City.
