Water polo now offered at Aliso Viejo's Aquatic Center
|
With the ever-growing popularity of water polo - heightened by the excitement of the silver medals clinched by the U.S. Men's and Women's teams in the 2008 Olympics - the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center has dedicated Fridays to getting local youth and adults into top shape.
The new center now offers private, semi-private and group instruction followed by a fun and competitive scrimmage game. The lessons are available between 1 and 3 p.m. with the scrimmage starting at 3 p.m.
Scrimmage games are free when buying a 30-minute lesson or are available separately for $5. Private lessons are $40; semi-private are $20; and group lessons are $10.
Whether it's your first or 15th "skip-shot" scoring session, stop by the pool at 29 Santa Barbara Drive. The Aquatic Center is conveniently located at Aliso Creek Road and Glenwood Drive, near the golf course.

Several participated in Aliso Viejo's Summer Walking Program Monday
|
Nearly 50 people laced up their tennis shoes and joined Councilman Bill Phillips, City Manager Mark Pulone and others for a summer trek around the City's Town Center Loop Trail.
Monday's walk kicked off the City's Summer Walking Program that celebrates the recent completion of the Town Center Loop Pedestrian Enhancement Project, which is designed to improve the pedestrian experience around Aliso Viejo Town Center.
The walking program is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 13, 20 and 27. Monday's walk took participants on a leisurely 2.1-mile trek. To kick things up a notch, walkers will expand their journey and enjoy a 3.1-mile jaunt next week.
The goal of the program is to give people an opportunity to explore and enjoy Aliso Viejo's landscape while getting a dose of exercise.
Participants are encouraged to park and meet at 6:15 p.m. in front of the On the Border restaurant. The restaurant, located in Aliso Viejo Town Center near Enterprise, is at 26661 Aliso Creek Road. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing and bring water.
