Summer Little League tournament expected to benefit local business, City as a whole
|
The City Council on Wednesday approved $10,000 in funding for the Aliso Viejo Little League's 2009 tournament, an event that attracts visitors from around the nation.
The funding will go toward ball-field improvements for the Aug. 4-11 Little League Junior Western Region Tournament at Woodfield Park. The Aliso Viejo Little League and Little League District 55 host the tournament that includes state champions from eight states competing for the opportunity to advance to the Little League Junior World Series.
This year, league officials plan to work with local merchants to encourage tournament families to shop, dine and enjoy the City's many amenities. Plans for discounts to movies and City restaurants are in the works, and visitors could receive discounted rates at the Renaissance ClubSport.
With the league's 2008 historic season, in which the 12-year-old majors division came close to playing in the Little League World Series, attention on the tournament and this South County city is expected to be even greater.
