City of Aliso Viejo
Adolescent Internet Safety presentation April 28

In an effort to educate parents, grandparents and caregivers of the dangers children face on the Internet, the Orange County Sheriff's Department High Tech Services Reserve Unit will give an interactive presentation at 7 p.m. April 28 at Aliso Viejo Middle School, 111 Park Avenue.

The presentation, Adolescent Internet Safety, will help educate parents and caregivers on the dangers of the popular Web site, MySpace.com. MySpace.com - a free controversial Web site advertised as a place where friends meet on-line - offers music, videos and other information for teens and young adults. Users are able to create personal profiles, post photographs and keep blogs on the World Wide Web for friends and others to read. There has been a growing concern among parents, school administrators and law-enforcement personnel that too much data is hanging out there in cyberspace, making personal information easily accessible to child predators.

People who attend the presentation, which is open to parents and/or primary caregivers and grandparents (only) from around South Orange County, will learn how predators can access children on the Internet. The presentation will also focus on the dangers of instant messaging.
