Table tennis tournament, fundraiser March 28-29

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is seeking players and sponsors for its inaugural Canyon Court Classic Table Tennis (Ping-Pong) Tournament/Fundraiser March 28-29.

The tournament, which kicks off at 10 a.m. in the gym at 1085 Laguna Canyon Road, is open to people of all ages, with three competition categories including men's and boy's singles; women's and girl's singles; and co-ed doubles. Each competition category will be separated by age groups so competitors face opponents of similar age. The top three competitors of each age group will receive prizes from local community sponsors.

Food and drinks will be available for sale at the club, which also services youth in Aliso Viejo.

Statewide Special Election set for May 19Election seal

Californians will be headed back to the polls for a statewide Special Election on May 19.

The statewide election was authorized by the State Legislature and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as part of a budget signed into law on Feb. 19. Voters will consider six ballot propositions.

The Orange County Registrar of Voters will begin mailing sample ballots after April 9 to Orange County's 1.6 million registered voters.

The Special Election will mean Californians will have voted in a statewide election every year but one since 2002.
