City of Aliso Viejo
Council to discuss budget, priorities and more March 18

The City Council on Wednesday will receive an update on the financial trends, state budget, development impact fees and economic factors impacting City revenues. Despite a weakening economy and several economic factors outside of the City's control, the City remains fiscally stable.

Council members will also review current visioning statements and discuss their priorities for the coming year.

Council priorities - and items council members would like action on - guide City staff members with delivering services and allocating resources to support council goals. The council will provide input and direction to staff, which will return on May 6 with a preliminary draft fiscal year 2009/10 budget for the council to consider.

The council will also consider extending by an additional 10-plus months an interim urgency ordinance, which was adopted earlier this year, that established a 45-day moratorium on potential development of  industrial and other "heavy" uses - such as chemical manufacturing and outdoor storage - in "business park"  zones of  Aliso Viejo.  The council deemed the moratorium necessary to protect the public's health, safety and welfare. Extending the ordinance will give the council more research time to determine the location of the newly created "Business Park II Zones" in the City.

The council's March 18 meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 12 Journey. For more information, call 949-425-2500.
