Greetings!

Upcoming solo shows will move us thru summer by (and below) the sea, and also ask us to ponder our interior games and symbols. And on the autumn horizon is a yearly favorite: the BAA Watercolor and Aqua Media Open Competition. Our galleries are an ever-changing opportunity to see and appreciate what others see.

For more information on all of these exciting events, read more below or go to our website at BuenaventuraGallery.org.

Thru August 11

First Friday Gallery Crawl: August 3, 5-8 pm

Many contemporary photographers multiply their megapixels and digitally modify them in pursuit of greater image control, but Jim Fitzgerald of Ventura has gone 180 degrees in the other direction. He makes black-and-white photos using a laborious process developed in the mid-1860s and large- and ultra-large-format view cameras that he builds himself, because "I have found that no other process has given me the quality, beauty and feeling that I can produce. ... I see no other way to express myself," he says. (More)

"The Sea and
Everything In It"

August 14 - September 8

Reception:  Sat., August 18, 4- 7 pm

First Fridays Gallery Crawl:

September 7, 5- 8 pm

The title "The Sea and Everything In It" was taken from a verse in the Bible, Psalm 98:7, "Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!" In the Bible the sea is a symbol for many things, the unknown, all of mankind, etc. This show hopes to convey not only the artist's love of the ocean and the lifestyle around it but also humanity's need for a relationship with its creator.

"Games People Play: You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore"

August 22 - September 17

Artist's Reception: Friday, August 24, 5 - 8 pm

This show uses games we all might recognize from our youth to express the many layers of human feelings and interaction -- be it good, bad or both at the same time. Incorporating the use of game boards or game symbols, Baggenstoss explores on canvas, the humorous and dark topics of life's trials and tribulations.
