2012 Arrives with a Bang at BAA
Greetings!

BAA welcomes all our friends to a new year of discovery. We're starting off with a bang by hosting the highly anticipated 2012 Open Competition, featuring Gary Lang as this year's juror. $1500 in prizes will be awarded. And we also are proud to announce a solo exhibit by renowned artist and BAA member Dorothy Hunter, whose work has been acclaimed throughout a long and prodigious career. We're looking forward to a year full of exciting art and events, showcasing the extraordinary talent of the many local artists who define Ventura as "California's New Art City."

There's always something new to see, and several venues to explore -- Buenaventura Gallery, Harbor Village Gallery, and Community Memorial Hospital.  For more information please visit our website at BuenaventuraGallery.org.

"The Essential Dorothy Hunter"

Artist's Reception:
Friday, January 13, 5 - 8 pm

Dorothy Hunter's oil paintings bring the emotional palette of impressionism to the world of abstract art. She says: "I am usually referred to as an abstract artist but perhaps my work should be called abstract impressionism, because the work comes from memories of things I've experienced in life. The colors and shapes I use refer to places I've seen or music I have heard. These images dwell in my mind and haunt me like ghosts of things past until they compel me to commit them to canvas or paper."
