Computer Components Sought to Create a Work Station for MembersA computer station is being planned for BAA's downtown gallery for use by our members. We are looking for a
used computer and/or desktop computer parts. We are hoping that members
will donate either a good used computer or enough parts to build one. Below is a list of the items we currently need.
Case (Full tower, mid-tower, or mini-tower. An older model would probably be fine).
Power supply (older models are OK.). Hard disk (we have two 80 GByte drives on hand) Video card Memory (RAM that would fit the motherboard we get - 512 MByte or larger) CPU (Any two-core processor that matches our motherboard). CD/DVD burner Windows XP: A legitimate and legal copy with certificate of authenticity, that is not being used. Monitor: A monitor, 1280 X 1024 or better is desired, and flat screen would be nice, but we can probably work with whatever we get. |

 Changing with the Seasons
This
time of year is known for change. BAA follows suit with three new group
exhibits and two new solo shows changing at all of our Exhibiting Spaces in
September. Each of the group shows this month is open to members and
non-members for submissions. This variety in eligibility for showing with BAA
opens our doors for future members to see the opportunity that joining BAA
brings. The famous 30-second "why to become a member" speech - perfected by
Donna Carver - includes the word "community" more then once. As I changed the Two Trees Calendar from Laura
Walter's watercolor to Mr. September, Marlon VanCott, I was greeted by a former
member of our community. A gentlemanly fixture of the Harbor Village Gallery,
his smile and selective hearing were as welcome a greeting any visitor or
friend might hope for. When I was learning the strings at the HVG, I observed
Marlon utilizing that space as much as he could, taking the opportunities that
BAA offered and taking full advantage. I loved it! Marlon owned that gallery
and all the regulars knew where to find a friendly hello. Listening to a sales
pitch from Donna, you heard her connection, her ownership of this organization.
You own the galleries too. Being present at the
receptions is a small piece of the pie. Showing your work in an exhibit here
and there is important too, but it's our community of talented and dedicated
artists that gets my heartstrings going. I encourage you to stop in our
galleries when there is not a reception, introduce yourself as a member to the
volunteer host, and let them know which work is yours, or find out what they
do.
The friends who are a part of our group will not
always be here. Things change, opportunities come up... or perhaps YOU MOVE TO
FLORENCE, ITALY! Like our dear colleague and staff member Christy Smolenski (left).
Please come celebrate her year with BAA on her last day, Wednesday, September
15 from 5 - 6:30 pm for a "Ciao Christy Pot Luck" at the Harbor Village
Gallery. Thanks Christy! I know a few of us will visit you in Italy, expecting
a personal guided tour of one of the most historically famous art communities
in the world. This artist community will miss you!

Regina Vorgang & W. Scott Miles"Origins: Rugs in Inspirational Places"
Regina Vorgang's creations bring a new meaning to the phrase
"consider the source". Many of us have learned to pay attention to
the country our clothes were made in or the state our vegetables originated.
Have you ever thought about where the fibers in your rug come from? Chances are
there is a story to tell. (Click here for more.) Janet Black "Synthesis: New Works in Collage"
Sept. 14 - Oct. 9 Artist's Reception: Saturday, Sept. 18, 4-7 pm
Look once and you see a composition of colors and textures harmoniously
creating a figure. Look twice and notice the medium of numerous papers
from a handful of origins, torn with grace and skill, and reconstructed
into values of light and shadow. Step in closer, nose to nose with the
artwork and see the words of lyrics, psalms, poems and philosophies that
elevate your awareness of peace, calm, introspection. Black's layers
of collage are merged with impressive painterly quality. Her united bits
and pieces form her "big picture". (Click here for more.) Also: Meet the artist on Friday October 1
for First Fridays Ventura from 5-8pm.
