| Greetings! |
Greetings Members! Time to brag about our BAA Artists! I was honored to be on the selection committee for the Featured Artists for the next two City of Ventura ArtWalks, along with 5 other influential members of our artists' community. There were over 20 submissions and in the 3 hours we were given to review, discuss and vote on our choice, the decision were undisputed! Congratulations to Janet Black and Hilda Kilpatrick. Two talented BAA members who's work will be the poster images for Fall and Spring ArtWalk!
Have you looked at Our Artists page of BAA's website lately? These are YOUR bragging rights! Regina has been diligently updating the artists web pages for those of you who have paid your dues. I encourage more of you to look at this great opportunity for having your own page on our website for ONLY $25 a year! You can display 3 of your pieces as well as include an artist statement of your own and a link to your own website if you have one. Links to these pages are also included in the Our Members Shine portion of the newsletter. If you see a members name highlighted, then click on it and you will be directed to their page. Oh the joys of technology!

Darlene Dewing "Favorite Places"The landscapes Darlene Dewing creates in pastels are more like nature
portraits. She gathers information on the soul of a place and transfers
its likeness to paper with buttery colors which volley between the
definition of painting and drawing. This spirit is the moment Dewing
hunts for. The sun haloing a tree like a saint, the sparkle of light on
the water or the blanket of color Mother Nature lays down in the
springtime; these are Dewing moments. (Click here for more info)
Regina Vorgang
& W. Scott Miles
"Origins: Rugs in
Inspirational Places"
Aug. 17-Sept.
11, 2010
Reception: Sat., Aug. 21, 4-7 pm
Regina Vorgang's creations bring a new meaning to the phrase
"consider the source". Many of us have learned to pay attention to
the country our clothes were made in or the state our vegetables originated.
Have you ever thought about where the fibers in your rug come from? Chances are
there is a story to tell. If you're Vorgang, then you've not only met the sheep,
but you've helped sheer and card the wool used to create these utilitarian
masterpieces she wants us to walk all over. Origins celebrates the materials
used as well as their inspirational subject matter. Accompanying
photographs include the woven rugs as a compositional element in their place of
inspiration. This collaborative show provides insight into the creative process
of a husband and wife, who celebrate their innovative expression in different
media. (Click here for more.)Meet the artist on Friday September 3
for First Fridays Ventura from 5 - 8pm.

"Whimsical Wags...
Where Art Meets Bark"
August 11 - Sept. 5, 2010 Pet-Friendly Artist's Reception: Friday, August 13, 5 - 8 pm
Mary-Jo Murphy's work is
simply fun and catchy, bringing smiles and laughter to animal and art admirers.
Her subjects are "man's best friends" including; dogs, cats and other animals
rendered in a range of colors, full of energy and love. Her work expresses the
bond between beloved pets and humans. Looking into the eyes of our pets we feel
their compassion and joy. Murphy states, "Their wisdom remains unspoken but not
un-communicated." Reminiscent of pop art with an iconic appeal, Murphy's work
is composed with fun, solid-color backgrounds and close-ups of the beloved animal's
smiling face. Think Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe, but with funky animals as the
star of the show! This exhibit joyfully presents Murphy's bold work in
acrylics, watercolors, and digital ink-resist. (Click here for more info.) Coming in September ... Luanne Perez
