Darlene Dewing
"Favorite Places"
July 20 - Aug. 14, 2010
Dewing explores western America with an adventurous goal; to find the next moment she will capture on paper. The thrill of the hunt calls for early morning drives, weekend get-aways and stepping into nature, away form the daily routine we keep ourselves busy with. Dewing knows to keep her eyes peeled and her camera at hand for the moment is not as obvious or easy to capture as you hope. "It might be something subtle and if you blink too soon or turn away, you just might miss it," observes the artist. The landscapes Dewing creates in pastels are more like nature portraits. She gathers information on the soul of a place and transfers its likeness to paper with buttery colors which volley between the definition of painting and drawing. This spirit is the moment Dewing hunts for. (Click here for more.)Coming Soon:
Regina Vorgang & W. Scott Miles "Origins - Rugs in Inspirational Places"
Aug. 17 to Sept. 11, 2010 Reception: Saturday, Aug. 21, 4-7 pm.
Vorgang's creations bring a new meaning to the phrase "consider the source". Many of us have learned to pay attention to the country our clothes were made in or the state our vegetables originated. Have you ever thought about where the fibers in your rug come from? Chances are there is a story to tell. If you're Vorgang, then you've not only met the sheep, but you've helped sheer and card the wool used to create these utilitarian masterpieces she wants us to walk all over. Origins celebrates the materials used as well as their inspirational subject matter. Accompanying photographs include the woven rugs as a compositional element in their place of inspiration. This collaborative show provides insight into the creative process of a husband and wife, who celebrate their innovative expression in different media. (Click here for more.) Mary-Jo Murphy"Whimsical Wags ...Where Art Meets Bark"August 11 - September 5, 2010 Pet-Friendly Artist's Reception:Friday, August 13, 5 - 8 pm Mary-Jo Murphy's work is simply fun and catchy, bringing smiles and laughter to animal and art admirers. Her subjects are "man's best friends" including; dogs, cats and other animals rendered in a range of colors, full of energy and love. Her work expresses the bond between beloved pets and humans. Looking into the eyes of our pets we feel their compassion and joy. Murphy states, "Their wisdom remains unspoken but not un-communicated." Reminiscent of pop art with an iconic appeal, Murphy's work is composed with fun, solid-color backgrounds and close-ups of the beloved animal's smiling face. Think Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe, but with funky animals as the star of the show! This exhibit joyfully presents Murphy's bold work in acrylics, watercolors, and digital ink-resist.
