David Gallup Workshop a "Huge Success"
(by Kay Zetlmaier, Workshop Coordinator) David Gallup spent about 6 hours of in-depth critique during the
BAA workshop held Sunday May 2. Each
participant showed 6-10 paintings, and David's professional analysis, and
his direct approach engaged everyone in attendance. His wealth of knowledge for professional
artists in how to become "great" was inspiring and helpful to say the least. In his words: "Thanks for having me, it was an absolute pleasure to work with such an experienced and talented crowd!" I
would like to have David back again next year.
Participant feedback:"I think he hit a lot of valid points - and was on
target." Nancy Horwick "I speak for myself, it was very helpful."
Virginia Beale "Went home pumped and
inspired by all that was shared with David's expertise ... and painted,
painted!!!!" (unsigned) "One of the toughest critiques that I have ever
encountered. I will definitely use more color in plein air." Kathy

| Greetings! |
The Art Association that Never Sleeps
"The Art Association that never sleeps!" is that our
new tag line? We have so much going on here at BAA it really is easy to watch
another month fly by with just a brush stroke. The Member shows have been
great! The solo shows, fantastic! The David Gallup Critique Workshop was packed
and went 2 hours over schedule and there are two new workshops coming in the
months to come! Can I put any more exclamation points in one paragraph? My point is, dear committed artists, if you feel like you're not involved enough with your artist organization, then
there are plenty of opportunities to join in the revelry. The last two
receptions were brimming with attendees; they are such great events to catch up
with your fellow artists or art lovers. News at the HVG is for the dogs... No
really, Pet Portraits are back - time to memorialize your favorite furry, fluffy
or feathered friend. Our kids program, Kids Creations, is also back and will be
offered throughout the summer. If you have a lesson, craft or project you would
like to teach, let Christy know, she'll put you on the calendar. Another great
way to be a part of the community involvement BAA prides ourselves in. Thanks
for another great month, and see you this Saturday at Caffrodite for our coffee
house fundraiser. ~Emily Thompson, Executive Director, BAA |

BAA Member Potluck, Board Election
and Annual MeetingSaturday, June 12, 11:30 to 2 pm Bring Your Favorite Dish to Share
Please mark your calendars for our
annual member meeting on June 12, to be held at the Harbor Village Gallery. We
will be electing our board of directors for 2010-11, and enjoying the usual
sumptuous potluck brought in by our wonderful members (past highlights have
included Lady Jan Faulkner's fabulous spicy artichoke dip). Please bring a main dish, salad, or dessert and/or drinks, along with serving items. Two weeks
beforehand, each of our members will receive a ballot in the mail listing this
year's candidates for officers and at-large board members. A profile of each of the
candidates will be included with your ballot. Please return your
ballot at or before the meeting on June 12. You may also mail or bring your ballot to the
Santa Clara gallery in time for the meeting.
Thanks to our Board for Outstanding Service
Time for all of us to offer our
appreciation to this past year's board members and officers for a great year of
service. BAA has weathered the economic downturn with the help of the following,
who have given a lot of time and effort to our organization, often above and
beyond the call of duty. The past year's board members are: Jack Halbert (president), Merilee Allen (first semester vice president), Gordon Bohn (second
semester treasurer), Wana Klasen (Secretary), Gloria Rupio (first semester
treasurer), Janet Black, Judy Gibbs, Hilda Kilpatrick, Bob Privitt, Marilyn
Cahill, Amani Fliers, Donna Zaza, Helle Scharling-Todd, Kay Zetlmaier and
Dorothy Brunkan. Because of the dedication, insight and energy of people like
our board members, BAA has been a major force in the art scene in Ventura since
1954. Now the new membership year is upon us, and it's time to vote in the
2010-11 board and slate of officers. Celebrate a year well done at our
Annual Meeting on June 12, and add your own personal thanks.
BAA Board Accepts President's
Resignation
On May 5, 2010, Jack Halbert tendered his resignation as president of
the board of the Buenaventura Art Association. At a special meeting on May 6, the board of directors formally accepted Jack's resignation. The Board, on behalf of the BAA membership, would like to thank Jack for his time and effort as BAA's
president, and wish him success in any and all future endeavors.

"Golden Days and Starry Nights"
May 12 - June 13, 2010
"I just returned from a beautiful December Sunday morning painting session in La Jolla Canyon,
Point Mugu. The day was crisp and sunny. Yesterday was dreary and
rainy, but I never mind the wet days...Spring is around the corner.
Sounds very optimistic in these days of economic melt down and H1N1. I
am a native Californian. Although, I am not pleased at the over
population and development, there are still many places you can find
the unspoiled beauty of our state. My paintings reflect my impressions
of my surroundings. Most of my paintings are done plein air and are
spontaneous and true to the moment. If you look closely some contain
plant and insect remnants. The larger works are done primarily in the
studio where I can focus on the color and composition without changing
light and climate." Click here for more info.Coming in June ...

What Post does, is what she loves and it is beautiful. Creating for Post is
more then pen on paper, ink to press and brush strokes on a canvas. "To
create is to be alive," says Post, a dogma representing the skills and
beliefs she has learned, shared and taught for a life time. Her prints and
paintings share the significance of the numerous lives she has touched and
