Greetings!
This month we are proud to announce our 4th annual Collegiate Student Art Competition, bringing much deserved attention to our local art students. It is a long-standing goal of BAA to support emerging student artists by showing their work and awarding scholarships to help them on their way. Come take a look into the future. And please also enjoy the work of artists in our solo shows, group shows, and the new exhibit at Community Memorial Hospital.
For more information on these and future events, please visit our website at buenaventuragallery.org.

AT THE BUENAVENTURA GALLERY 700 East Santa Clara Street Ventura, CA
Helle Sharling-Todd
"Figures and Spaces" An Exhibit of Fused Glass and Steel
March 2-27, 2010 Reception: March 6, 4-7 pm
Figures and Spaces is a collection of episodes, as Sharling-Todd titles
them, depicting moments of human interaction. Her inspiration comes from
observing people and the drama they create among themselves, simply by being
alive. "To observe humans and their activities never ceases to amaze me, and to
create little dramas between a group of figures is fascinating," explains
Sharling-Todd. By isolating the
activity of a single individual, the fallen figure or the helping hand, Sharling-Todd's
linear compositions tell a story of expression and relationship. The colorful
frozen narratives portrayed in glass and steel have a historical quality to
them, like a psychological thesis. The theories and results of these "episodes"
have been visually preserved for posterity.

is
a fine artist specializing in portraits and pearl jewelry. Her "passion
for freshwater

two are alike. "I look at each pearl for its unique
qualities and potential, much like a sculptor looks at a stone they are
about
to carve." Debi's portrait work is done primarily in
charcoal and oil, and she has the ability to capture a likeness and
