Volunteer Opportunities |
Bring-In Coordinator: Have you ever wondered how the bring-in volunteers are found? Who calls them? Who makes sure we have plenty of people to make bring-in as easy as possible? Betty Buckner! However, she has been doing the same job for YEARS and would like someone to take over the position. If this interests you, please email Chris. This is a perfect job for someone who needs to do their volunteer work from home. |
Take A Survey |
We are trying to find out if members are interested in "taking a trip" together!
For example...would you be willing to attend a BAA sponsored trip to the Getty...or MOCA...or Lotus Land?

Greetings! |
Welcome to our new members only e-newsletter. This format is replacing our tabloid-size printed newsletter.
You will actually be receiving approximately 4 enewsletters a month: 2 for members only and 2 that are sent out to members as well as the general public. "Sketches" the enewsletter for the general public will have Buenaventura Art Association openings and events.
This new format will save us money, time as well as allow us to go a little "greener."
For those members that don't have email, we will be printing out a version of this that will be mailed to their home.
Many changes have happened since our last newsletter... |
From the Executive Director, Christine Beirne |
It has been so long since our last newsletter that it feels as if I need to write a book to let all of you know what's been going on...but since we are aiming to have two of these go out a month, I'll try and keep it short!
Everyone is talking about the economy, and as many of your know, the arts are not immune. We are trying to cut corners without sacrificing the professionalism that you expect from BAA.
How can you help? KEEP VOLUNTEERING!
BAA could not operate without you. You are our jewels...besides sharing your artwork with the community, you share your time with your fellow artists....what a gift you are!
If we don't tell you enough...thanks to all of you who respond to last minute pleas for help...who help keep the galleries going, the postcards mailed, the jurying process, the wall labels, etc., etc., etc....I just get tired thinking of all you do!
Thank you, and we'll be in touch in a couple of weeks!
Chris |
Meet Your Board |
Donna joined BAA in early 2005 and immediately got heavily involved in making sure that our new space at the HVG ran smoothly. She gave a presentation to our members on how to write/log sales at the HVG and the Art Store, which is now known as "HVG Artisan Store" (more) | |

Message from our Workshop Coordinator - Donna Carver |
I just took over the workshop position a few months ago. Since then our director Chris and I have worked very hard to create new documents for the workshops which would enable us to collect important information. This information will empower our director to write and qualify BAA for more money and better grants.
BAA will now be offering three types of programs that our classes will provide:
Community Empowerment Classes : Free of charge to BAA members, (this includes California Gold Coast Watercolor Society members); with a $10 nominal fee for non-members; as well as free to individuals from "the under severed population" who qualify for our "fee waiver" program.
Teacher as Independent Contractor Classes : The instructor selects the subject to be taught; decides how they want to facilitate the learning process and experience; as well as sets the fee rates, dates, length of class and minimum- maximum number of participants. The class can be a single class or a "series class". As an instructor at BAA, you are required to allow 15-25% of your class be "Fee-waived participants". This "fee waiver" program/ data category is vital for many grants which BAA would like to apply and quality.
Artist Enrichment: Free to all BAA members. These are classes given for our artist members to enrich them with knowledge and skills in their professional development and to help them to stay current with the times in the art world. Examples of some of these are: Critiques of your works of art; art bio, resume' and artist statements writing or editing; or how to frame your own art, just to name a few.
In order for our workshops to be successful and meet your needs and interest I need to hear from you. I need your input. If you or someone you know is interested in giving a BAA sponsored workshops or if you have an idea for a type of workshops you would like to see offered or would like to take, please contact me:
I look forward to hearing your ideas.
Thank you and hope to see you at future BAA workshops.
